Biography

Fuegoleon Vermillion (Japanese: フエゴレオン・ヴァーミリオン, Hepburn: Fuegoreon Vāmirion) was a male human magic user who was born to a noble family in the Clover Kingdom.

Fuegoleon was present at the Magic Knights’ headquarters during the Magic Knight Entrance Exam. Already a captain of the Crimson Lion Kings, Fuegoleon was introduced as one of the most respected figures in the Clover Kingdom. During this gathering, he observed the selection process with dignity, carefully evaluating the candidates. He noted Asta’s determination and magicless state but did not dismiss him outright, instead watching intently as the boy demonstrated his willpower. Fuegoleon’s presence established him as a central authority figure, commanding respect not only from the examinees but also from his fellow captains. Afterwards, he took part in the royal capital’s defense when the Eye of the Midnight Sun launched its first large-scale attack. He personally engaged enemy mages, demonstrating mastery over fire magic as he conjured immense flames to repel the invaders. Fuegoleon fought decisively, shielding civilians and coordinating with other Magic Knights during the chaos. His actions showed both his leadership and personal combat prowess, as he balanced offense and defense while maintaining a calm, commanding demeanor in the face of overwhelming danger. It was during this battle that he noticed the attackers’ strange coordination and began piecing together the threat they represented to the Clover Kingdom. Fuegoleon continued the fight against the invading forces, personally taking on one of the leaders of the Eye of the Midnight Sun. He unleashed his Salamander-shaped fire spells with incredible precision, overwhelming enemies with both heat and force. However, he was caught off guard when a spatial magic ambush separated him from his allies. Isolated, Fuegoleon was attacked by an enemy who managed to stab him with a strange, cursed weapon that drained his magic power. Severely injured, Fuegoleon collapsed, but before losing consciousness, he entrusted his magic pendant to Asta, showing trust in the younger generation of knights to carry forward the fight.

Personality and attributes

In appearance, Fuegoleon Vermillion was a tall man with purple eyes and long, straight vermillion hair. His hair is neatly combed to the back while leaving his long fringe combed to the left in a wavy hairstyle. One of his notable features is the red markings around his eyes. Another one is a diamond-shaped mark of similar color on the center of his forehead. Additionally, he also wears a pair of red earrings. During his fight with Licht, Fuegoleon loses his right arm, and it is later replaced by one made of fire. Fuegoleon's attire consists of a white tunic which is covered by a dark blue shirt with long sleeves and high collar. The shirt is decorated with gold-colored fabric with vertical stripes design on its edges, collars, and along the sleeves. In order to keep the shirt together, he wears a purple sash around his waist. Moreover, he wears white trousers and black high boots with similar design as his shirt. On top of his attire, he wears a long red cape. As a member of the Crimson Lion squad, Fuegoleon wears the squad's signature robe that only covers his torso. His squad robe has similar color as his personal robe. The robe has gold intricate designs at the lower front edge and complemented with a scarf of similar red color. Additionally, a pair of gold-colored ropes are protruding from between the scarf and the robe at the front and a purple stone was decorating each end. Lastly, the squad's insignia is located at the center back of the robe.

Fuegoleon’s personality was defined by his sense of justice, discipline, and respect for merit over bloodline. Unlike many nobles in the Clover Kingdom, he judged individuals based on their character and potential rather than their social status. This was evident in how he treated Asta, showing respect despite the boy’s lack of magic. He was also deeply loyal to his kingdom and comrades, embodying the virtues of responsibility and leadership. His calm and composed nature made him a reliable figure in times of crisis, and his natural charisma inspired loyalty in those under his command.

Powers and abilities

As a human of noble heritage, Fuegoleon possessed an exceptionally high mana reserve, granting him the ability to sustain advanced and large-scale spells. His natural affinity was with fire magic, which allowed him to conjure destructive and precise flame-based attacks. Fuegoleon’s control of fire extended to shaping it into constructs, such as massive lions and salamanders, capable of both offense and defense. His physiology as a noble human also gave him heightened stamina, resilience, and the ability to endure extreme magical strain.

As a royal and captain of a Magic Knights squad, Fuegoleon had an immense amount of magic power. He can create an intense pressure around his surroundings just from releasing it and manifest a large lion from his magic power.

Fuegoleon possessed a three-leaf clover grimoire that contains fire-based magic spells. The grimoire has red covers with an intricate flower design, which is decorating the border of its covers and an ornament of leaves arranged in the shape of a sun at the center of the covers.

His powers were further amplified after he formed a bond with the fire spirit Salamander (サラマンダ, Saramandā), granting him an even greater mastery of fire magic and combat ability.

He stood as a nobleman who was a member of House Vermillion (ヴァーミリオン家, Vāmirion-ke). In this time, he joined the ranks of the kingdoms Magic Knights (魔法騎士, Mahō Kishi) who served as protectors of their country. Fuegoleon would come to even rise to the position of Captain of the Crimson Lion (紅蓮の獅子王, Guren no Shishiō) who were one of the many elite squads of the Magic Knights. He came to be demoted though after his near death and injury where his sister came to lead them but he still retained his position as a powerful senior Magic Knight.
