History

The Fomorians

The Fomore finally returned to Otherworld and laid siege to it. Hearing tales of the Avengers from the Twentieth Century from the Black Knight, the wizard Amergin brought them to Avalon to help defeat the Fomore. Bres, however, escaped to the Twentieth Century, but was soon captured by the returning Avengers. (Avengers v1 #226)

Led by Elathan, the Fomorians initiated a full-scale invasion of the mystic isle of Avalon, conquering most of the realm by the 12th century. The Fomorian war council voted to attack Amergin's tower directly after observing the High Druid Amergin's actions through Elathan's scrying powers. Elathan used weather-manipulating powers to shatter the top of the structure, bringing the battle to the Avengers and the Black Knight. The Fomorians overwhelmed the combined forces of the heroes through sheer power and numbers, and during the battle, the Fomorian Cethlann defied the council and freed her husband, Balor, from his imprisonment, unleashing him onto the battlefield. Balor then utilized his optic blast, seemingly vaporizing Thor and She-Hulk, disrupting the time-travel spell and sending the remaining Avengers back to the present. Concurrently, the precognitive Fomorian Bres snuck into Amergin's tower, used the magical gateway, and traveled to the modern era, bringing an unconscious Doctor Druid and Iron Man with him. The Fomorians successfully occupied Avalon, intending to conquer Earth itself. (Avengers v1 #225) The Fomorians were defeated and their invasion of Avalon was halted through the use of the Evil Eye of Avalon, which absorbed Balor's energy and turned his power against them. Black Knight, Dane Whitman, used the Eye to seal the gateway between Earth and the Fomorians' dimension, ending the invasion and returning the remaining Avengers to their own time while restoring Black Knight's physical form. (Avengers v1 #226)

Bres broke loose at Project: PEGASUS where he had been detained. He terrorized the mutant criminal Solarr before having him killed. Bres was then defeated by Iron Fist. (Power Man and Iron Fist v1 #113) Balor of the Fomore aided Mordred the Evil and Morgan le Fay in a plot to take over and reshape Earth. (Black Knight v1 #4) The Fomor once more lay siege to Avalon, but were this time dispelled by Leir and Caber. (Marvel Comics Presents v1 #30)

Morgan Le Fay recruited the Fomore to delay the Avengers in her pursuit of the Twilight Sword, as Asgardian relic lost in England. (Avengers v3 #1)
