In distant South America, he came to operate as a vigilante after being inspired by the famous Gotham City masked vigilante known as Batman. Whilst fighting crime, he resolved to meet the Caped Crusader to learn more from him. The actions of him and similar such masked crime fighters around the world attracted the attention of the Dark Knight who invited them to Gotham in order to learn his methods. Arriving at the city, he joined the other heroes as they met Batman when a public boast was made by local criminal 'Knots' Cardine who intended to defeat them all. Guacho and the others joined Batman to an incident at the Gotham Bell Company. Whilst there, they were ambushed but Batman managed to stop the trap sprung on them. Guacho and the Ranger then decided to cover Gotham Boulevard as they made their search for Cardine. The continued actions of the villain were seemingly damaging the reputation of Batman who was seemingly being outwitted by the shrewd criminal. Whilst tracking clues, Batman seemingly came upon Cardine's base of operations in a derelict house but upon investigating it the building exploded. It was revealed that the house was boobytrapped and the Caped Crusader was seemingly killed. In response, the other 'Batmen' resolved to capture Cardine with the Legionary being appointed their leader. They looked to protect a armoured cat transporting a fortune from the Gotham Bank with Guacho and Ranger providing flanking escort to the vehicle. It was then that the Legionary seemingly turned on the Batmen when he pulled out a gun whilst Cardine's gang came to rob the armored van. However, Batman was hiding among the cash where he revealed that the Legionary was actually Cardine who had impersonated one of the visiting Batmen. He would help defeat the notorious criminal who was then apprehended by the authorities. His actions came to impress the other masked lawmen who thanked the Dark Knight for his instruction. (Detective Comics v1 #215)
Guacho would join the real Legionary, Knight, Squire, and Musketeer when they received a call to Metropolis by the millionaire John Mayhew. They were joined by Batman, Robin and Superman where Mayhew revealed that he had paid to have a headquarters built for the gathered heroes whom he has dubbed as the Club of Heroes. Mayhew tells all the gathered heroes that he will make out the deed to the property in the name of whomever the newly formed Club selects as their chairperson. As no hero would volunteer for the title, Mayhew decided that the best person to be their leader was whomever performs the greatest super-deed. While all the heroes go about their usual super-heroics, they all believe that Superman or Batman should be elected chairperson and decide to keep their feats secret, so that Batman or the Man of Steel can win the position. However, Superman began to suffer from strange fainting spells and whilst in these states a new hero named Lightning-Man appeared who averted disasters that appeared before Superman would pass out. El Gaucho’s activities began when Bruce Wayne and Batman arrived in Argentina to recruit him into Batman’s new global initiative. When Batman confronted him, El Gaucho engaged directly in combat, showing no hesitation in testing his skills against Gotham’s Dark Knight. He countered Batman’s strikes with calculated precision and displayed his own mastery of martial combat, matching him move for move across the fight. However, after the heated exchange, Gaucho accepted Batman’s mission proposal and immediately transitioned into active operations, assisting him in confronting the sinister presence of Doctor Dedalus, setting the groundwork for his continued involvement with Batman’s international allies. This combination of brawn and street-level knowledge made him indispensable in Batman’s campaign. (Batman Incorporated v1 #2)
Later on, he worked with Batman as they broke the illegal operation of super-criminal El Papagayo in Argentine. The villains operation was exposed by a spy in Cimarron of the Super Malon hero team who was looking for information on a group of missing children. El Papagayo came to cripple Cimarron but then looked to escape the two masked vigilantes pursuing him where they wanted to know the identity of his employer. It was then that he was killed by a robotic scorpion where the only clue left behind was from his parrot which said the word "Oroboro". El Gaucho’s activities escalated when he and Batman penetrated deeper into Dedalus’ labyrinthine operations. Gaucho took the lead in several moments of the mission, striking down foes with both his weapons and hand-to-hand expertise while shielding civilians from Dedalus’ manipulations. He fought with ruthless precision against Dedalus’ minions, alternating between stealth and full confrontation, adapting his methods to the changing threats around them. At one point, he directly protected Batman from an ambush, intercepting an attack before Batman could be caught unaware, solidifying his value in the field. His activity in this issue marked his growing role not just as an ally, but as a fighter Batman could rely on in the thick of combat. (Batman Incorporated v1 #3)
