Biography

Dogmeat

Dogmeat was encountered by a human vault survivor, known as the Vault Dweller, inside the post-apocalyptic settlement of Junktown. Dogmeat was initially under the ownership of a local human resident named Phil, but Dogmeat became highly aggressive and refused to leave the perimeter of a residential shack after his original master was killed by local thugs. Dogmeat constantly barked and trapped Phil inside his own home, preventing any access to the building. The Vault Dweller intervened to resolve the domestic disruption by presenting Dogmeat with a piece of iguana-on-a-stick meat and actively wearing a dark leather jacket that closely mirrored the attire of Dogmeat's deceased owner. Recognizing the familiar visual asset and scent profile, Dogmeat's hostile temperament immediately ceased, and Dogmeat established a permanent, unyielding bond of loyalty with the Vault Dweller. Dogmeat officially joined the traveler's squad, exiting Junktown to serve as a dedicated combat companion and tracking asset across the lawless wastes of California.

Overview

Personality and attributes

In appearance, Dogmeat was a medium-sized, quadrupedal mammalian creature that possessed the structural biological physical traits of a purebred Australian Cattle Dog crossbreed. Dogmeat possessed a thick, dense coat of short fur that exhibited a mottled, multi-colored pattern consisting of grey, black, and tan patches scattered across his athletic torso and limbs. His head featured an intelligent, elongated canine snout, a wet black nose, a pair of dark expressive eyes, and slightly pointed ears that reacted sharply to environmental sounds. His body was lean, muscular, and heavily built for survival, supported by four powerful limbs that terminated in padded paws equipped with short claws for traction on rough desert terrain. Dogmeat did not wear any standard garments, tactical uniform gear, protective armor plates, or a decorative collar during this initial state, remaining entirely in a natural biological form.

Powers and abilities

Dogmeat was born a member of the canine race who was a domesticated cattle dog species native to the post-apocalyptic wasteland. On a basic feats level, this resilient physiology granted Dogmeat exceptional natural physical attributes, including high-tier running speed, advanced agility, and an extraordinary olfactory tracking system that allowed him to detect hidden traps and follow faint scent lines across irradiated landscapes. Dogmeat possessed a high tier of near-human cognitive intelligence, situational awareness, and combat conditioning, enabling him to instantly comprehend complex human movements and follow direct tactical directives from the Vault Dweller without verbal training. He demonstrated elite combat utility and physical dexterity, allowing him to leap forward to bite, pin down, and tear into armed human raiders, mutants, and hostile wildlife during active skirmishes, while continuously alerting his companions to incoming physical hazards through targeted growls and barks.

Television

  • In Fallout, Dogmeat appeared in the setting of the live-action television series adaptation. CX404 CX404 was born in an Enclave laboratory some years before 2296 on the West Coast, where she was slated for incineration for being underweight, but Siggi Wilzig rescued her. She was his companion while he perfected his cold fusion technology. When Wilzig's secret research was discovered by another Enclave scientist, CX404 killed the man, though not before he pulled an alarm. The pair were forced to flee the base, managing to evade being killed by an automated turret, but afterward, a bounty was placed on Wilzig's head. They have their first encounter with Lucy MacLean at her makeshift campsite, where CX404 attacks and devours a radroach that was sneaking up on the sleeping Vault Dweller. They later briefly stop on their journey through the Wilds, where CX404 wanders into a nearby yao guai den, retrieving a severed human hand and bringing it to Wilzig. They manage to escape again. CX404 remains with Wilzig up until they reach Filly. When Wilzig was attacked by the Ghoul, she attacked him in turn but was stabbed and incapacitated. After Wilzig escapes with Lucy's help, the Ghoul takes pity on the injured dog and brings her into Ma June's shop. He uses a stimpak to heal her and starts using her nose to track Wilzig down for the bounty
