Biography

Deborah Fields

Debrii was introduced as a somewhat reluctant and abrasive addition to the New Warriors, where her actions immediately established her as a disruptive force within the team’s dynamic. Initially brought in by Night Thrasher to serve as a 'fail-safe' against the team's increasingly erratic behavior, she demonstrated her low-level telekinetic abilities by manipulating a swirling vortex of localized debris—specifically small rocks, trash, and metal scraps—to create a protective and offensive shield around herself. During a high-stakes confrontation with the reformed Thinker and his intellectual drones, she utilized her powers with a cynical efficiency, using the surrounding clutter to batter her opponents rather than relying on traditional heroic displays. Her most notable actions, however, were social and psychological, as she spent the mission providing a scathing running commentary on her teammates' incompetence, openly mocking Microbe's powers and challenging Namorita’s leadership. Despite her palpable disdain for the 'superhero' lifestyle and her constant threats to quit, she remained physically engaged in the skirmish, ensuring that her telekinetic junk-field served as a tactical nuisance that distracted the enemy long enough for the team to stumble toward a messy victory. (New Warrior v3 #4) She continued her tenure with the New Warriors during a mission that took the team to a remote research facility in Poughkeepsie, where her actions further solidified her role as the group’s resident skeptic and tactical outlier. As the team investigated the suspicious activities of Genetix, Deborah utilized her telekinetic control over ambient detritus to navigate the facility's perimeter, though she remained more interested in vocalising her boredom and contempt for the mission’s 'd-list' stakes than in following Night Thrasher’s rigid protocols. When the team was suddenly ambushed by the facility's bio-engineered security forces, she reacted with her signature low-effort efficiency, raising a swirling barrier of metallic scraps and gravel to deflect incoming fire while simultaneously berating her teammates for their lack of situational awareness. She played a crucial, albeit grumpy, role in the ensuing skirmish by using her powers to jam mechanical door locks and disrupt electronic consoles with small pieces of junk, proving that her utilitarian approach to combat was effective despite her refusal to adopt a heroic persona. Throughout the conflict, her actions remained driven by a desire to simply finish the job and return to her civilian life, yet she inadvertently provided the necessary defensive cover that allowed the more idealistic members of the team to push forward into the heart of the complex. (New Warrior v3 #5)

Debrii was one of the former Warriors who felt the sting of the growing anti-New-Warriors movement when her secret identity was 'outed' online through a New Warriors hate site, after which her car was overturned and set on fire. (She-Hulk v2 #8)

After Ragnarok, a clone of Thor, kills Black Goliath, Debrii is compelled to become involved and joins Captain America's Secret Avengers. (Civil War v1 #4)

Deborah has been identified as one of the 142 registered superheroes who are a part of the Initiative program. (Avengers: The Initiative v1 #1)

She was one of the former Warriors who were accused of beating Gauntlet. In truth it was her fellow recruit Slapstick who performed the crime, as he was sick of Gauntlet insulting his dead friends. (Avengers: The Initiative v1 #6)

Debrii later quit the Initiative, along with Justice, Rage, and Slapstick forming the team Counter Force. (Avengers: The Initiative v1 #12)

She later returned to Camp Hammond with the team, now calling themselves the New Warriors again. (Avengers: The Initiative v1 #21)

Debrii eventually quits the team, and leaves the country to go into hiding with Heavy Hitters members Nonstop and Telemetry. (Avengers: The Initiative v1 #28)

After the fall of Osborn, she is no longer a fugitive but remains in Paris, working as the judge of the TV talent competition Superpouvoir. (Avengers: The Initiative v1 #35)

Debrii appears at a meeting held by Prodigy regarding magical hammers that have crashed into the Earth. (Fear Itself: Youth In Revolt v1 #1) Debrii and other heroes then battle Juggernaut, who was transformed into Kuurth: Breaker of Stone, in Las Vegas, Nevada. (Fear Itself: Youth In Revolt v1 #3)

Overview

Personality and attributes

In appearance, Deborah Fields was a young human female of African-American descent who possessed a lean, athletic physical build. Her most defining physical characteristic was her dark hair, which was styled into long, thick dreadlocks that fell past her shoulders. In her debut, she wore an idiosyncratic, casual combat outfit rather than a traditional, standardized superhero uniform. Her upper attire consisted of a red, sleeveless tank top that left her arms completely bare, paired with dark, form-fitting tactical trousers. She accessorized her look with a prominent set of spiked, fingerless black gloves on both hands and wore high-top red combat boots. Her overall visual presentation was highly distinct, completely lacking any standard heroic chest emblems, capes, or hidden masks. (New Warriors v3 #4)

Powers and abilities

Debrii possessed a specialized, low-level form of telekinesis that was explicitly described as a 'telekinetic magnet'. While she lacked the raw physical strength to levitate or manipulate massive, singular heavy objects, her power allowed her to exert precise telekinetic control over hundreds of smaller, loose items in her immediate vicinity simultaneously. Her baseline metahuman physiology also allowed her to levitate her own body a short distance off the ground, though she remained entirely incapable of true, high-altitude flight. In combat, her telekinesis functioned by weaponizing the surrounding environment, allowing her to rapidly vacuum up sheets of scrap metal, rocks, and random discarded clutter to create a dense defensive barrier around her body or fire them at adversaries as high-velocity projectiles.
