Biography
Death the Kid (Japanese: デス・ザ・キッド, Hepburn: Desu za Kiddo) was the son of Lord Death where he was created from a part of the Grim Reaper's being similar to Asura with both being an incomplete Grim Reaper. From a young age, he was trained by his father to be his next heir where he worked hard to be the next generation of death gods with him being unaware of his father's intended fate once he completed his task. As he grew older, his reputation grew where he was noted for being a talented and capable fighter with many students feeling that they could not compete with him. He expanded his interest in being a meister and came to hear of the Thompson Sisters who he brought into his service.
One of his missions was to the Temple of Anubis where a witch who had mastered necromancy came to resurrect a Pharaoh and his army in the hope of controlling them. Kid along with Liz and Patty were tasked with taking down the Witch where he ventured in the pyramid. However, Kid's OCD caused him to fear one of his favourite paintings at home being unbalanced causing him to abandon the battle as he rushed home thus leaving Liz and Patty behind to fight off the undead army. This resulted in the witch being successful in resurrecting the Pharaoh who killed her before going on a rampage with Liz and Patty confronting him but were soon captured by their foe.
Shinigami and Death the Kid are both seen watching the battle between Black☆Star, Maka and their weapons against Sid. They soon discuss who it was that killed Sid and turned him into a zombie. With the culprit now revealed to be Dr. Stein, Shinigami then explains that he not only was the current Death Scythe Spirit's first partner, but that he was the strongest student to ever graduate from the DWMA. Kid was later seen watching the battle between Stein and the the DWMA students. He is shocked at the revelation and personally believes that they will all die at the hands of Stein. As the battle proceeds, Kid is astonished by Stein's masterful use of wavelength without the use of a weapon. Kid is soon unable to watch the onslaught brought on by Stein and wishes to aid them, but is stopped by his father, who states that this is for the DWMA students. Kid then decides that, henceforth, he, Liz, and Patti will be the DWMA students. On his way out of his father's room, Kid is seen stumbling as he believes he forgot to fold the edge of his toilet paper into a triangle. Patti and Liz try to help him but all their attempts are in vain. There was constant talk regarding Kid enrolling at the DWMA with Black☆Star becoming angry over the attention given to him. This led to him waiting to confront Kid who ended up arriving three hours late as he spent the entire time making certain that everything was perfectly symmetrical before his departure. When Kid finally does arrive, he immediately begins to admire the supreme symmetry of the school building; however, he was quickly devastated when Black☆Star ruins the symmetry by standing on and breaking one of the spikes protruding out the main skull structure. This greatly angers Kid and he prepares to do battle with Black☆Star and Soul. During battle, Kid uses his twin pistols with great dexterity and handles both Soul and Black☆Star with extreme ease.
Overview
Personality and attributes
In appearance, Death the Kid appeared as a young teenager who always wore a black suit with a white shirt and a tie along with black shoes. He sported black hair with the left side of having three white lines that were known as the Lines of Sanzu which plagued him due to their asymmetry. However, in reality and unknown to him, they were an indication of his status as being a Grim Reaper. He was also called Kid (キッド Kiddo) by others. He came to inherit his late father's position as leader and headmaster of Death Weapon Meister Academy as well as his name leading to him being known as Lord Death (Shinigami-sama, 死神様).
He was taught that reapers either upheld absolute order or governed the cross between the life and death of others though ultimately their purpose was about maintaining balance
It was noted by Franken Stein that Kid had an uptight personality.
As an inheritor of Death's Madness of Order, Kid suffered from a number of mental conditions including asymmetriphobia and obsessive-compulsive disorder. The asymmetriphobia caused him to fear symmetrical things in his life whereas the crippling obsessive compulsive disorder had him attempt to find symmetry in everyday life. This could cause him to break down upon seeing anything off even by the slightest measure with this hindering his daily life and even affected battle at times. Such was the case that when Liz was separated from him that he refused to use Patty in gun mode as a single gun had no symmetry. In another case, he admired the sun and cloud formations when they had perfect symmetry causing him to forget his goals allowing his foes to get a chance to escape.
Under the influence of the Madness of Power, Kid's personality changed dramatically due to his yearning for the perfect world where instead of balance he strived to achieve 'nothingness'.
Powers and abilities
As the son of Shinigami, had greater potential in endurance and mobility than that of ordinary people. Unlike others, Kid was a Grim Reaper that meant that he was naturally strong and immune to damage that normally affect humans.
In his earlier form, his underlying power was shown to be on a different level than other meisters at DWMA. This led to be him ranked as among the top three students at the academy.
Kid was shown to be skilled close-quarter combatant able to engage in martial arts and dealt precise heavy damage in melee strikes. This included him being skilled in the Death God Taijutsu (死神体術, Shishin Taijutsu) martial arts style.
Among the techniques known to him included:
- Soul Perception (魂感知, Tamashī kanchi) : he had the ability to skilfully perceive and sense the souls of other beings.
- Soul Resonance (魂の共鳴, Tamashī no Kyōmei) :
- Tornado Flip (トルネードフリップ, Torunēdo Furippu) :
- Death Slide (デススライド, Desu Raido) :
As a Gun-Type Meister (銃型職人, Jū-gata Shokunin), Kid was a talented gun users with his choice of weapons being that of the Demon Twin Guns. These were a pair of weapon partners who were known as the Thompson Sisters that he chose as having two of them matched his needs for perfect symmetry. Liz and Patty both were able to transform into pistols that Kid held in an upside down position. He was highly proficient in their use allowing him to lay down withering weapon fire against his targets. When conducting soul resonance, the souls of his weapon partners bonded with him where the two Thompson Sisters merged with Kid as they turned into giant cannons that were part of his arms. After completion, they became Kid's Death Cannons that developed a soul charge before firing powerful blasts of energy.
Kid could also summon a flying skateboard called Beelzebub that operated as a method of transportation and as a weapon. When called, Death the Kid simply jumped on-board and the skateboard could take him to destinations at fast speeds.
By connecting the Three Lines of Sanzu, Kid was able to achieve a Transformation (変身, Henshin) and attain a new form that was that of a true Death God that symbolised him replacing his father's position in the world.
