Biography
Dakota North
North operated a private investigation firm with multiple international branch offices and received a new assignment from fashion designer Luke Jacobson to protect him and his latest collection from potential sabotage. She navigated the high-stakes world of Manhattan fashion, at one point riding her motorcycle out of a service elevator and through a department store to reach a shoot. Her father, Samuel North, later contacted her to request she assist an old friend, Major George C. Cooper, by guarding a gold-plated pen that secretly contained a sample of a lethal experimental nerve gas. During the course of these events, the pen fell into the possession of her younger brother, Ricky, who was manipulated by a spy into traveling to Europe. Dakota tracked him to Switzerland, where they were both captured by Sheik Ibn Bheik. She eventually engineered an escape, though the gas was released during the struggle, resulting in the deaths of the Sheik and his subordinates. Throughout the investigation, she also contended with Russian agents and the villainous Cleo Vanderlip, who sought the nerve gas for her own purposes (Dakota North v1 #1)
Dakota later encountered Spider-Man after he mistook her for a criminal while she investigated a series of robberies at a high-end department store. She initially clashed with the wall-crawler when he interfered in her pursuit of a thief, leading to a brief physical confrontation where she utilized her combat training to defend herself. Following the misunderstanding, she coordinated with the hero to uncover a plot involving the theft of expensive furs and jewels. She provided critical tactical information and used her investigative resources to track the stolen goods to a warehouse. During the final confrontation, she supported the hero in subduing the thieves, eventually securing the recovery of the merchandise and clearing up the confusion regarding her role as a private investigator. She attempted to assist the young heroes in managing the situation while investigating the source of the creature, which led her into a conflict with government agents from the Power Foundation. As the situation escalated, she helped protect the siblings from being captured by the authorities who sought to study the extraterrestrial matter. She utilized her investigative skills to uncover the underlying corporate conspiracy involved in the creature's presence in the city and provided a tactical advantage that allowed the children to safely neutralise the threat.
