Biography
D (Japanese: 吸血鬼バンパイアハンターD, Hepburn: Vanpaia Hantā Dī) was a male dunpeal who was born as the child of a human and a vampire in the age when the Nobility controlled the Earth. He was originally a conjoined twin with an identical brother also named D with them being born in the Sacred Ancestor's research facility deep beneath the village of Sedoc. The site was used as a place where many experiments were conducted in the creation of Noble/Human hybrids. In this time, he came to be bonded with a symbiotic Left Hand that came to be attached to his limb. D came to escape the facility after it was destroyed whilst his brother was taken by the Sacred Ancestor. Much of his past remained unknown except that as he matured he came to embark on the life of a vampire hunter.
Overview
Personality and attributes
In appearance, D seemingly appeared human but with slightly pale features though one that were remarked as being incredibly beautiful to others to the point that both women and men remarked on it. He was typically seen wearing a wide brimmed traveller's hat along with a faded black long coat.
The Dunpeal D was a quiet and reserved man who had pale almost blue colored skin and long black hair. He typically were black clothing along with a robe and had a large that masked his eyes. He spoke rarely as he believed that he should only speak if he had something useful to say. This meant that he largely ignored conversations with people unless he had something important to ask or say. Ultimately, he was a bounty hunter who worked to kill the vampire race in exchange for gold. Though not many knew the truth, D was actually the son of the sacred vampire ancestor himself, Dracula. He was also aware that his father did not believe in the policy of the strong preying on the weak despite many vampires of the Nobility believing in this concept.
He was intelligent enough to realize that when he entered Count Magnus Lee's castle that he was entering into a trap even before he was cautioned by Left Hand. It was often said that he was an honorable warrior as well and did not kill for no reason. Doris Lang claimed that he followed a code of honor that was foreign to the life of predator and prey that most vampires were used to in regards to the human race. This was demonstrated when he did not kill Magnus Lee's daughter Larmica after she was paralysed by a special incense. Instead, he allowed her to return to her home despite her confusion. When Larmica learnt of D's lineage, she claimed that he was the most Noble member of her family though he simply brushed the comment aside by saying he was not nobler than her or anyone else. He was also known to keep his promises as was the case with Leila where he agreed to come to her funeral as she feared no one would do so and that he would bring her flowers on that event.
Because of his nature as a Dhampir, D faces a constant struggle with himself as a child of two different worlds. His vampiric heritage means that he was feared and hated by the Human race. This means that he faces a torturous existence and is often alone in his travels around the world. When clients often angrily comment on how evil the vampire race is, D typically remained silent and states that he is not bothered by such comments as he cannot change the blood within him. Ultimately, he believed that he was incapable of living a normal life because he was a dhampir who would always he hated. As such, he once told Leila another vampire hunter that it was an option for her to live a happy life. He told Count Magnus Lee that he and his kind did not belong among the living with them being nothing more than visitors from the past as well as being shadows from the world of darkness. During that confrontation, he said that Lee along with the rest of the vampire race needed to go back to where they belonged namely back to the abyss of oblivion. When the vampiress Carmilla told him that the vampires were superior to humans and thus part of the food chain, D responded by saying that the vampire race was dying and that their extinction was in accordance with the laws of nature.
D often has to struggle with the need to consume the blood of humans but he refused to do so and through sheer force of will manages to avoid indulging in this vampiric trait. When Meier Link told him that the urge to consume human blood was strong and that it will eventually take over him, D responded that when the time came others would come to hunt for him should that occur and the possibility of him being a terror on mankind would be ended simply through such means. Despite this being the case, he often had to struggle against his need for blood amongst humans as was the case when Doris Lang once hugged him and was trying. At that point, D had sight of her neck and fought his bloodthirst and the need to consume her blood.
Whilst D generally remained quiet with little known of his thoughts, the left hand symbiote often makes remarks which causes D to shut it up in some manner. On one such occasion, the parasite scoffed at the supposed code of honor that D followed when he sought to save Doris Lang from Magnus Lee as it believed that D was in love with the young woman. His remark included the left hand commenting on the hypocrisy of D calling himself a dhampir and that he was the son of Dracula. However, before he could say the name Dracula, D told silenced him. On another occasion within Magnus Lee's castle, D even threatened to cut off his hand to silence the left hand parasite. In regards to the Lady Charlotte and the vampire Meier Link who were in love, the Left Hand stated that what really made D driven to killing Meier Link was to prevent the birth of another Dunpeal like himself. Once Left Hand commented on this, D forced his hand into a fist which shut the symbiote up.
He was capable of reading unique written language that was known to vampire hunters. He also typically made use of cybernetic horses to travel the lands.
Powers and abilities
He possesses a wide range of abilities due to the unique nature of his being a child of Human's and Vampires.
Though he might not appear to be muscular, he is in fact super strong with him easily capable of punching through solid stone walls. He has noted as being able to put enough strength in his sword to effectively slice through thick stone pillars as well. In addition, his reflexes are great enhanced making him very fast and high agile. His reflexes were fast enough for him to catch a arrow directed at him in mid air by Boris Markus. He was able to dodge and out run a volley of spears and arrows directed at him as well as being able to effectively combat the supernatural speeds of the Nobility. He was even able to jump a large chasm and reach the other side with apparent ease. His stamina was also far greater then a Human as long as he does not stay extensively out in the sunlight making him almost invulnerable in combat. He also possessed a advanced healing factor allowing normal cuts and bruises to heal almost instantly while more larger injuries or lacerations took a matter of minutes. Even after being stabbed by his own sword, D was shown to heal from the wound instantly.
D was noted as being a seasoned fighter and was quite skilled in the use of the sword to the point that most enemies only notice s silvery flash before they are killed. Through his sword, he was capable of sparring with opponents who used melee weapons and even deflect energy attacks that struck the blade. To compliment his swordmanship, D was also noted as being an accurate marksman as he was able to hurl foot long wooden spikes at any target with a high degree of accuracy. His fighting skills were also matched by him being a trained tracker with his heightened sense of smell, sight and hearing allowing him to accurately track a target.
In addition to his inherent powers and his skill, D also possessed a parasitic organism in his left hand. This creature feed on the four elements of earth, fire, wind and water in order to accomplish powerful abilities. Furthermore, the Left Hand had the capacity to talk and think like a person. Its abilities allowed it to smell prey and see through solid objects in order to see the person on the other side. The actions of Left Hand were even able to bring back D after its host was killed by a stake through the heart. Through the left hand, D was capable of putting a Human into a deep sleep which he did on Doris Lee or suck air into the symbiotes mouth allowing it to consume insects that are thrown at D. The power of the symbiote also allowed it to consume the spirit of a powerful but defeated vampire like Carmilla or to weaken the blackish void that the Barbarois Benji used on him.
Finally, the vampire hunter also possessed a mysterious blue pendant he wore around his neck. Its origins are unknown but it was able to release a pale blue light that had the power to disable or activate the ancient machines of the Nobility. This allows D to access a wealth of long lost information from abandoned machinery. The pendant has also been noted as casting fear into the smaller mutants and demons on the Frontier as was seen when D used it to enter Count Magnus Lee's castle.
Despite his powerful abilities, he does possess a number of weaknesses that can be exploited. His vampiric nature that while he can withstand being in the sunlight, overexposure to the sun can weaken him greatly. This condition is referred to as Heat Syndrome or Sunlight Syndrome and recovers D to be dug into the soil whilst being away from the sunlight. In such a state, he was able to recover from the damage his body sustained. Furthermore, being a dhampire meant that he also required at times blood in order to sustain himself. Finally, a fatal injury by staking him through his heart had the potential of killing him. Another weakness was the use of a special type of candle who's light and incense was able to paralyse anyone with vampire blood in their veins.
