Biography
Origin
Claire Voyant
Claire Voyant worked as a professional spirit medium who communicated with the deceased to comfort her living clients. During an intensive private séance, a wealthy family accused her of being a fraud, causing the head of the household to curse her name. Distressed by the accusation, Claire Voyant drove away from the estate in a civilian automobile, which veered off a cliffside road and crashed into a ravine, killing her instantly. Her soul descended into Hell, where she was directly confronted by Satan. The demon lord offered her a supernatural pact: he would resurrect her mortal body and grant her mystical powers if she agreed to serve as his personal assassin on Earth, hunting down unrepentant sinners so their souls could be harvested for the underworld. Claire Voyant accepted the transactional bargain and returned to the mortal plane as the Black Widow. Operating in her new costumed persona, she tracked down her very first target—the wealthy man who had cursed her prior to her fatal accident. She cornered the victim inside his private estate, paralyzed him with fear, and executed him via her lethal touch, successfully dispatching his soul directly to Satan's realm. (Mystic Comics v1 #4)
Twelve
Born around the turn of the century, Claire Voyant travelled to Los Angeles in 1928 to check up on her younger sister Debbie who had gone there to look for fame and fortune. Claire met Debbie's new boyfriend, the rich and lecherous mobster Lester Maddox who wasted no time putting the moves on her as well, even suggesting a threesome. Thoroughly disgusted, she tried to convince Debbie to leave Lester, but the 18-year-old girl was too enamored with all the perks that being with Maddox offered her. Her flirtatious relationship eventually proved fatal when Maddox tired of her and had one of his men kill her in cold blood. The police and authorities were too corrupt or powerless to take on Maddox, infuriating Claire who vowed vengeance while standing at her sister's grave. At that very moment, she was contacted by Satan', who offered to give her enough power to avenge her sister if she agreed to become his immortal servant. She was granted a wide variety of powers to carry out her task. She chased down Maddox, taking her time to stalk him before shifting her hand into an elongated claw that ripped Maddox apart. Powers and abilities
Claire Voyant was born a member of the human race but was later biologically and mystically transformed through an infernal contract, granting her an exceptional immortal status far beyond standard human limitations. On a basic feats level, her standard human biology was completely replaced by a hellborn physiology, gifting her with total immunity to biological aging, mortal illnesses, and standard physical trauma. She was an exceptional member of her species due to her baseline training as a spiritual medium, which granted her an innate sensitivity to the paranormal world and the ability to perceive incorporeal entities. Her primary innate supernatural power was the touch of death, which allowed her to execute targets instantly upon direct physical contact with her bare skin, leaving a distinctive brand resembling a black spider web on the victim's flesh. She possessed enhanced physical durability and the exceptional ability to generate and manipulate localized mystical shadows to conceal her movements, allowing her to teleport across short distances and materialize inside secured rooms completely undetected. Additionally, she possessed an adaptive human intellect that enabled her to track hidden sinners across Earth and execute her master's directives without failure. (Mystic Comics v1 #4)
The powers of the Black Widow's demonic form were said to be far more powerful at night. (The Twelve v1 #8)
