Biography
Claire Redfield (Japanese: クレア・レッドフィールド, Hepburn: Kurea Reddofīrudo?) was a female human born in the modern age where she was the younger sister of Chris Redfield.
On August 1998, Chris had secretly gone to Europe in an effort to stop Umbrella' further experiments and decided not to tell Claire in order to keep her away from danger.
Following weeks of no contact from her brother, Claire came to worry for Chris which led to her leaving college in late September of that year and going to Raccoon City to find out what happened to him. She stopped at a diner in the northern parts of the city, having not noticed the violence in the city, and was confronted by the murderous chef. Upon leaving she was saved by Leon S. Kennedy, who decided they drive to the police station for safety. While approaching the station, they were separated by a fiery accident, and fought their way out to it. Leon and Claire soon discovered the station had collapsed due to the outbreak of the t-Virus, being that the only unzombified police officers were the injured Lt. Marvin Branagh, Elliot Edward, and Police Chief Brian Irons. She would meet Lieutenant Branagh, who saved her after that the zombies chased the college student through the shutter door of the East Hallway. Marvin later gave Claire a combat knife and warned her not to hesitate shooting zombies, regardless of being in uniform or not, before also becoming a Zombie after Claire returns to the Main Hall after leaving the Parking Garage. Claire also found Sherry Birkin, the daughter of William and Annette Birkin. They later crossed paths with a psychopathic Chief Irons, who was killed either by William himself or a G-embryo.
As the two made their way into the sewers, Sherry was separated and was parasitised by a G-embryo. After a meeting with Annette, Claire received instructions on how to provide a treatment to her condition, and went with her to the Birkins' underground laboratory complex. Fighting mutants throughout the lab, Claire obtained a vaccine to stop Sherry from mutating into "G". When the facility's self-destruct system was activated, Claire and Sherry escaped on a train with Leon. "G" survived the final battle with Claire and attacked the train during the ride. Working together, the three were able to bring the train to a halt and escape the cabin as it was engulfed in flames. Leon promised to take care of Sherry and urged Claire to continue her search for Chris, with Claire accepting
With Chris still missing, Claire decided to continue her search even after the experience at Raccoon City. She came to believe that he was at Umbrella Europe's Paris Laboratory with her infiltrating the facility but she was ultimately captured by the security forces at the site. Taken prisoner, she was left at Rockford Island by Rodrigo Juan Raval where her arrival happened to coincide with a sabotage operation conducted by HCF that was a paramilitary group headed by Albert Wesker. They managed to successfully release the t-Virus and B.O.W.s onto the island with the Umbrella paramilitary forces stationed there being eliminated in the process. Feeling sorry for Redfield, Raval decided to release the captive from her cell allowing her to roam free as he reasoned that she would die anyway in the chaos that had come to the island.
On the surface she met Steve Burnside, a seventeen year old who was interned following his father's betrayal of Umbrella for selling company secrets on the black market. The two searched for an airport to escape the island, but were repeatedly hampered by Alfred Ashford, 7th Earl Ashford, the island's commander, who believed Redfield to be linked to the saboteurs. Before they found a plane, Claire was able to get in contact with Leon via a computer; Leon, who had gained employment within the U.S. government's covert Anti-Umbrella Pursuit and Investigation Team, got in contact with Chris and sent him her location. Escaping to the Antarctic, Claire and Steve discovered Umbrella's Antarctic Base had fallen to a t-Virus outbreak brought there by the retreating Rockfort personnel. During their search of the facility, they found it was located several miles from an Australian polar observation base, and made plans to take control of a truck to drive there. The two ran into Alfred, who had followed them, but in their fight with him he was shot and fell off a ledge, where he was able to awaken his sister, Alexia, who had acclimated to mutation from t-Veronica infection through cryogenic stasis. After an encounter with the Nosferatu, Claire and Steve found the truck and drove off. They were soon after set upon by plant-like tentacles, which knocked the truck over, and the two were dragged back to the base as Alexia's prisoners.
After the incident at the Antarctic Base, Claire became associated with TerraSave that was an NGO organisation which provided aid to victims of bioterrorism.
