Biography

Chocolove McDonell (Japanese: チョコラブ・マクダネル, Hepburn: Chokorabu Makudaneru) was a male human born on October 2, 1985, and was from New York, USA. His parents were murdered on Christmas, and Chocolove was brought up in the streets, where he eventually became the leader of a gang named Shaft. After killing a man on Christmas with his gang members, Chocolove walks alone on the streets, reflecting on the horrible murder of his parents.

Two months later, Kalim flew Team "The Ren" to the island Tokyo, where the tournament would take place. In the first match of the tournament, Team "The Ren" was pitted against Hao's Team "Tsuchi-Gumi". The BoZ Brothers attacked first and were easily defeated by Chocolove's Shaft attack. Peyote, however, used the BoZ Brothers as mediums for his Over Souls. Chocolove tried to fight back but was almost defeated by them. He then remembered his past and pulled out the winds of laughter and the Ayers Rock Sunrise. This forced the spirits possessing the BoZ Brothers to laugh and freed them from Peyote's control. Chocolove, however, ran out of power and fainted, being saved at the last minute by Ren, who finished off Peyote and won the match. Afterwards, Teams "The Ren" and "Funbari Onsen" went back to the inn and ate together. The BoZ Brothers stopped by to thank Chocolove for showing them mercy and giving them a chance to restart. The two teams then rushed back to the stadium after Umemiya Ryunosuke announced that Lyserg Diethel would be fighting next. When he goes to see his friends from the Shaft Gang, he sees that they were each killed by Redseb and Seyrarm Muntzer who are using their Golem and shot Chocolove in retribution for killing their father Camel Muntzer. After he dies he arrives in Hell where he is trained by the spirit of Orona and also attains the spirit of Pascual Abaj, a former participant of the Shaman Fight in AD 1000. Chocolove returns to help his friends and forms a new Over Soul he named O.S. "Jaguarman".

Overview

Personality and attributes

In appearance, Chocolove McDonell was an African American boy of average height and his hair an Afro-style. He wears an African wrap on the lower half of his body, an open white dress shirt and cloth boots as his street clothes. His battle outfit is a yellow native dress with red and green patterns and a black open vest. The dress and the accessories where all from a tribe in South America and was given to Chocolove by his master Orona.

He had an relentlessly energetic, upbeat, and deeply enthusiastic commitment to performance comedy, explicitly aiming to use his humor to save the world. Heavily inspired by his late mentor, Orona, he firmly believed that laughter was the ultimate spiritual medicine capable of dissolving hatred and bringing universal peace to mankind. He displayed an unshakeable confidence in his routine, routinely delivering incredibly corny puns, situational jokes, and erratic physical gags despite his peers consistently greeting them with absolute annoyance or physical violence. This cheerful perseverance masked a highly profound philosophical clarity, as he deliberately chose to make himself the target of ridicule to inject joy into a violent shamanistic society.

Chocolove likes to tell jokes to his companions a lot, the only drawback is that his jokes and puns are quite corny and make no sense most of the time. The others have the tendency to run after him or beat him up after telling a joke.

Though upbeat in personality, he exhibited an extraordinary capacity for profound accountability, ultimate self-sacrifice, and quiet, heavy spiritual resilience when confronted with the ghosts of his criminal past. When targeted for lethal retribution by his past victims' children, he purposefully refused to evade their deadly assault, choosing instead to accept physical death to balance his karmic debts and protect his companions. While undergoing intense spiritual trials within the depths of Hell, his mind did not break under severe sensory deprivation; instead, he successfully integrated his guilt to achieve absolute emotional clarity. This transformative evolution granted him a fierce, battle-tested maturity, allowing him to calmly sacrifice his own eyesight during combat engagements to preserve his team's strategic advantage without losing his joyful disposition.

McDonell harboured a deeply buried, trauma-ridden history of profound malice, ruthless cynicism, and explosive street-level criminality. Prior to discovering shamanism, the sudden, violent murder of his parents on Christmas Day stripped away his childhood innocence, transforming him into the cold, clean-shaven leader of a predatory New York street gang called Shaft. During this dark period, he exhibited an utter disregard for human life, actively murdering innocent civilians like Camel Muntzer and filling his soul with a dense, unfeeling hatred to numb his internal grief. While he successfully reformed his life under Orona's guidance, this historic brutality left him with a massive, haunting layer of survivor's guilt that fundamentally drove his desperate pursuit of global comedy as a form of cosmic penance.

His dream in life is to become the Shaman King and a great comedian because he was inspired by his late master. Both of them believe that laughter is the best medicine, so even if people do not believe that his jokes are that funny, he does not give up and he tries even harder to achieve his dream to give the world what it needs the most, is laughter.

Powers and abilities

Chocolove McDonell was born a shaman who had the natural ability to see spirits and control Furyoko (巫力 , lit. "shamanic power").

He had exceptional level of baseline sensory perception and predatory agility achieved through his profound spiritual sync with his Jaguar companion spirit, Mic The Jaguar. By integrating the animalistic instincts of his ghost partner into his own physical body, Chocolove could drastically heighten his five senses, allowing him to track hidden adversaries across vast distances by scent alone. This animalistic integration granted him explosive reflex speeds and a flawless sense of balance, enabling him to execute complex acrobatics, scale vertical terrains effortlessly, and slip past enemy defensive perimeters undetected. Furthermore, this predatory sensory network gave him the precise reaction time required to predict high-speed projectile trajectories, allowing him to slip cleanly through dense webs of incoming physical attacks without losing his forward momentum.

From his former master, he came to inherit his Seirei-Class animal spirit Mic the Jaguar (ジャガーのミック Jagā no Mikku) to serve as his guardian ghost. Through training, McDonell learnt the advanced shamanic capability to manifest a specialized, high-mobility weaponry transformation known as the Over Soul "Mic The Jaguar." By channeling his internal Furyoku through his own physical body as the primary medium, he integrated his jaguar spirit to materialize sleek, clawed gauntlets over his hands and wild animalistic armor across his legs. This specific combat configuration allowed him to manifest the legendary wind-walking capabilities of the black jaguar, granting him the supernatural power to compress the surrounding air beneath his feet to run across the atmosphere at staggering speeds. This localized wind manipulation allowed him to launch sudden, multi-directional aerial assaults, leaving behind visible afterimages that completely disoriented his targets before delivering devastating, steel-shredding slashes with his hardened spirit claws.

Chocolove McDonell exhibited an extraordinary level of spiritual resilience and advanced shamanic evolution known as the Giant Over Soul Pascal Avaf. Following his grueling spiritual training and subsequent resurrection from the depths of Hell, Chocolove successfully merged his original jaguar spirit with the ancient, god-like Mesoamerican spirit of Pascal Avaf to form a colossally powerful dual-medium construct. This evolutionary power upgrade drastically multiplied his baseline Furyoku reserves, granting him absolute mastery over wind currents on a localized atmospheric scale and allowing him to create massive, armor-piercing sonic shockwaves during combat. Furthermore, this advanced transformation allowed him to seamlessly channel the accumulated memories and battlefield strategies of a thousand-year-old shaman, granting him the profound tactical clarity to locate hidden pressure points on an opponent's body and neutralize threats with minimal physical exertion.

Among the techniques known to him included:

  • Shaft (SHAFTシャフト Shafuto, Slice in the English manga) :
  • Gag Wind (GAGギャグWINDウインド Gyagu Uindo) :

After going blind, some of his other senses seemed to have been increased as he is able to smell the position of Yoh and the others.

Originally, he came to be the head of a gang in New York City called Shaft (シャフト Shafuto).
