Biography

Celeste McCauley

On her travels, she found herself on the planet Twilo. Celeste landed on a continent full of beautiful wilderness and rugged terrain. She was warned of a meteor strike that happened a few nights before. Celeste had found the remains of a Green Lantern. The unnamed Green Lantern died under mysterious circumstances. He still had his its Power Ring but detonates upon contact with Celeste. The radiation from the ring floods her body causing her to become a living conduit for the Green Lantern Energy.

Celeste originally joined the Science Police Academy, but left to become a private detective, opening her own agency called the Rockfish Detective Agency. Dawnstar and Celeste became close friends partnered up with her to help with cases. Dawnstar took the new name of Bounty.

The Daily Planet reporter Devlin O'Ryan uncovered through it's investigation that the current Earthgov administration was involved in the death of Blok the Dryad member of the Legion. Earthgov denied all the allegations and hired Celeste to find Kivun Roxxas, the Butcher. The Dominators wished to divert all suspicion of Earthgov's connection to the murder. Celeste went to Trom, the planet that had been decimated by Roxxas years before. Celeste and Devlin try to recruit Element Lad the former Legionnaire whose people were wiped out on Trom by the Butcher.

Her investigation led her to the planet Winath, where she attacks Roxxas and nearly beats him to death. Roxxas himself indirectly played a role in the reformation of the Legion with his revelation that the Dominators were now in control of EarthGov.

Celeste McCauley first appeared aboard Earthgov’s destruction-fraught Winath mission, where she was hired by Dirk Morgna (Sun Boy) to track the fugitive Roxxas. She narrowed his location using detective skills across multiple planetary systems, ultimately confronting him under the dome city of Winath. Almost immediately, Roxxas attacked, severely injuring her and other investigators. Despite her injuries, Celeste refused evacuation and continued to lead the search into rebel-controlled territories. When Roxxas cornered a former Legionnaire, she braved danger to protect civilians, drawing the perpetrator’s attention away long enough for evacuation pods to launch. Gravely wounded, she collapsed and was transported to a medical unit aboard the Legion vessel. However, moments later, a surge of emerald energy enveloped her body—originating from a hidden Green Lantern ring she had once found on the planet Twilo—and it stabilized her vitals and eradicated mortal injuries. She then fully recovered, surprising medical staff, and declared her intention to join the investigation into Roxxas and Earthgov corruption going forward. (Legion of Super-Heroes v4 #6)

Overview

Personality and attributes

In appearance, Celeste McCauley was a female human of average height with lightly tanned skin and reddish-brown shoulder-length hair, often styled simply. Her eyes were bright blue and observant, and she had a lean, athletic frame befitting someone trained in investigation and fieldwork. She typically dressed in professional attire—usually slacks and a collared shirt with a long trench-style coat—practical and unadorned. After her accident and energy infusion, she sometimes appeared wearing a simple Legion uniform modified from dark teal and silver fabrics, with minimal emblem insignia. In her transformed state as Neon or during brief stints as Darkstar, her hair faded, eyes turned pale white, and her body emitted a faint green glow. These alterations reflected her new physiology but were not visible in human form in her initial appearance. (Legion of Super-Heroes v4 #6)

Celeste McCauley demonstrated intelligence, tenacity, and strong moral conviction even before gaining powers. She had defied her wealthy family to become a private detective and refused to back down after being nearly killed. She showed determination in pursuing Roxxas despite threats to her life, and refused sanctuary when others were injured—prioritizing civilian safety over her own. She viewed her work as more than a job: as a duty to uncover corruption and protect the vulnerable. Even once healed by unknown alien energies, she exhibited humility—accepting the second chance she had been given but remaining focused on justice rather than prestige. Her relationships with former Legionnaires began cautiously, but she earned respect through competence rather than seeking approval. (Legion of Super-Heroes v4 #6)

Powers and abilities

Celeste came into contact with an exploding Green Lantern Ring and was showered in it's energies. Her body functions as a traditional ring would and also requires recharge and willpower.
