New Mutants
Catseye joined her comrades among the the Hellions during a confrontation with the New Mutants. She participated in a skirmish orchestrated by the White Queen, Emma Frost, who arranged a challenge between her students and Charles Xavier’s. The event unfolded in the Danger Room at the Massachusetts Academy, where Catseye, accompanied by Jetstream, Roulette, Empath, Thunderbird, and Tarot, opposed the New Mutants in a supervised match intended to assess skills and compatibility. During the encounter, Catseye displayed feline agility and confidence, moving with fluid grace across the simulated battlefield. Though the engagement was non-lethal, she behaved with predatory playfulness, often stalking her opponents and using surprise tactics. She clashed notably with Wolfsbane, another mutant capable of shifting into a beast form, though where Rahne's transformation was lycanthropic, Catseye’s was unmistakably feline. She demonstrated not only physical prowess but also a close attachment to her teammates, often communicating with them in short, emotional expressions rather than detailed speech. (New Mutants v1 #16) Catseye participated in the formal match between the Hellions and the New Mutants held at the Massachusetts Academy. She and Wolfsbane paired off in a controlled engagement, where Catseye avoided aggression, instead floating above the arena on silken paws, sizing Rahne silently. When Wolfsbane shapeshifted mid-fight, cat instincts overwhelmed her competitive reserve—Catseye instinctively sniffed Rahne and declared verbally that they should be friends, surprising both teammates and opponents alike. Her tactile intelligence allowed her to smell loyalty rather than hostility. As aggression resumed, she shifted into her partial feline form, using agility and claws to dodge attacks without seriously harming her opponent. She injured neither friend nor foe—emotionally, she held back and physically maintained control. When the match concluded, despite Hellions claiming victory, she avoided celebration, slipping into the shadows with a reserved nod to Illyana and the others. Throughout, her behavior emphasized curiosity and composure, establishing a bridge—albeit tentative—between the two teams through a combination of restraint, instinct, and understated empathy. (New Mutants v1 #17)
She next appeared at a social gathering hosted jointly for the X‑Men and the Hellions at the Hellfire Club’s mansion. She attended wearing a simple gown, noticeably more relaxed in her humanoid form, and shared a playful moment roaming the grounds with Wolfsbane—both in their animal states. The two frolicked behind the mansion in a wooded clearing, chasing each other up trees and leaping from branches, celebrating companionship rather than rivalry. Their play was innocent yet vivid: Catseye’s large lavender panther form darted through underbrush, weaving around trees with purring agility, while Rahne mirrored her moves in wolf-shapeshift. When they eventually returned to human form, Catseye showed evident embarrassment, smoothing her lavender hair with modest dignity, while offering a shy smile. Though the larger gathering remained tense between teams, these two spent the moment together, bonding without words. This scene offered insight into Catseye’s dual nature—as playful and sociable in company with kindred spirits, yet reserved and composed among others. (New Mutants v1 #31)

Overview
Personality and attributes
In appearance, Catseye was a female human mutant of lithe build with pronounced feline characteristics even in her humanoid state. She had lavender-pink skin and a lean musculature, resembling a humanoid panther in terms of agility and posture. Her facial structure retained vaguely human contours but with cat-like slanted eyes, a small nose, and pointed ears rising slightly from her head. Her long hair, a slightly deeper violet shade, flowed unrestrained down her back, often blending with her fur-like skin. Her fingers and toes ended in retractable claws, and she typically moved with the silent caution of a stalking predator. She wore a sleeveless, skin-tight suit designed to accommodate her physical flexibility and agility. The costume was composed of lightweight, elastic materials, black and dark purple in color, with claw slits at her hands and feet. In her fully feline form, she resembled a large lavender-colored panther with glowing yellow eyes and retained full cognitive function. Her two forms—humanoid and feline—were seamlessly interchangeable, and she often preferred remaining in her beast form. (New Mutants v1 #16)
Catseye’s core personality was inquisitive, instinctual, and emotionally direct, shaped by her upbringing apart from conventional human society. She frequently communicated in third-person, referring to herself as “Catseye” and others by scent or descriptive terms. Her thought processes were more emotional than intellectual, and she exhibited a preference for straightforward communication. Catseye’s interactions reflected a childlike curiosity and an unguarded approach to relationships. She bonded quickly with those who treated her kindly, particularly Rahne Sinclair, whom she saw as a kindred spirit due to their shared shapeshifting abilities. Unlike some of her more combative teammates, Catseye was rarely aggressive for its own sake and showed an eagerness to play, learn, and connect. Despite her feral nature, she was neither cruel nor malicious, and her loyalty to Emma Frost and the Hellions seemed rooted more in familiarity than ideology. Her social behavior leaned more toward animalistic hierarchies than human conventions, making her both unpredictable and refreshingly sincere. (New Mutants v1 #16)
