Castle Doom was a structure that resided in the nation of Latveria on Earth.
Originally, when it was built it was known as Castle Sabbat that was made by the ruling Baron with underground tunnels that he intended to use to allow himself and his family to escape into the mountains. For centuries, it was the seat of power in Latveria with it being ruled over by the Fortunov Family that was part of the aristocracy in the country. (X-Force v1 #63)
Operating from the high-tech lower laboratories, Doom finalized the construction of a chronological displacement array, aiming to siphon historical wealth directly from past eras to finance his modern military expansion. This sudden localized chronal distortion instantly drew the attention of the Fantastic Four, who launched a direct, unauthorized aerial infiltration into the castle’s airspace aboard the Fantasti-Car to neutralize the threat. The heroes bypassed the automated exterior laser grids, resulting in a brutal, multi-powered physical melee against thousands of heavily armored Doombot centurions within the grand banquet halls. Following the Venom virus release, the Mighty Avengers traced the launch to the Riga satellite that belonged to Doctor Doom. This led to the superhero team crossing the Latverian border and attacking Castle Doom itself with an army of Doombots attempting to protect it from the invaders. (Mighty Avengers v1 #9) Despite his use of magic, Doom was defeated leading to his arrest by S.H.I.E.L.D. for crimes against humanity and his castle being boxed up. (Mighty Avengers v1 #11)
During the Dark Reign, Doctor Doom was freed and allowed to return to his country where he arrived at the site of the destroyed Castle Doom with him having an armed escort. They later came under attack from Morgan le Fay who wanted revenge against the Latverian ruler. In response, the Dark Avengers under Norman Osborn arrived to battle the Arthurian era sorceress. (Dark Avengers v1 #2) After le Fay's defeat, the Dark Avengers departed and Osborn hid all involvement they had at the scene. Once they departed, Doctor Doom used a Timecube to restore Castle Doom from the destruction caused to it by Iron Man and Nick Fury thus restoring his home to its complete state. (Dark Avengers v1 #4)
Overview
In appearance, Castle Doom was a large, medieval-style stone fortress situated on a remote, secluded estate located within the Adirondack Mountains of Upstate New York. The heavily fortified stronghold featured high stone battlements and was entirely surrounded by a deep water moat stocked with live, snapping crocodiles to deter intruders. The interior of the structure contained heavily secured chambers, a technologically advanced central laboratory housing an original time travel platform, and localized control rooms equipped with specialized visual monitoring screens capable of altering environmental conditions, such as drawing the oxygen completely out of designated holding rooms. The master controls for the building's automated defenses were wired directly into a central panel susceptible to catastrophic combustion if manually short-circuited. The exterior structural walls possessed stone segments sturdy enough to resist conventional force but vulnerable to being pushed open under extreme leverage, while the surrounding moat could be completely dried or crossed if subjected to high-intensity atomic heat. Ultimately, the entire fortress fell victim to an intense, consuming fire that caused widespread structural damage and forced the evacuation of its occupants. (Fantastic Four v1 #5)
The underground tunnels were intended for the occupants to escape if the battlements were ever breached by an enemy though most of the passageways collapsed long ago. (X-Force v1 #63)
