Blue Mary is a female video game character who features in Fatal Fury.

Biography

Mary Ryan (Japanese: マリー・ライアン, Hepburn: Marī Raian) was a female human who was born in the modern age. When she was growing up, she came to meet a man named Butch with the two becoming lovers and he taught her martial arts. During this time, Butch came to be a colleague and partner to her father in the Secret Service. One day, the pair were on a mission protecting the President when both were shot and killed by terrorists. Their deaths devastated Mary who was said to had never smiled again after the incident.

Mary's former lover, Butch, and her father have worked together as fellow colleagues in the secret service, and her cousin, Kevin Rian, was an officer. While on a mission protecting the president, Butch and her father are both shot and killed by terrorists. Devastated by the loss, it is said she has never smiled again since the incident. The leather jacket she wears is a keepsake given to her as a gift from Butch. Having been taught by her former lover how to fight, she becomes a freelancer. Mary Ryan uses the codename 'Blue Mary' to honor the late Butch, named after her late boyfriend's favorite drink from the favorite bar he visited, a cocktail. By extension, Mary often drinks the 'Blue Mary' cocktail during vacations, particularly while at resorts and beaches.

Mary was commissioned to investigate the rumors of the Jin Scrolls in South Town. During her investigation, she ran into Terry Bogard, who was also in search of the scrolls, and fought. Realizing the two could work together to solve this mystery, the two would become good friends. After realizing the Scrolls' connection to the two Jin brothers, she went to her employers wondering why they didn't mention this information to her, implying that the one who hired her was Geese Howard. Mary entered the upcoming King of Fighters tournament to help Terry settle scores with Geese Howard. Sometime after the Maximum Mayhem tournament, Mary approached Terry discussing over the whereabouts of Rock Howard and the rumors that persist around him regarding the rise of Second South Town as a city state. She offered Terry a ride by to the Pao Pao Cafe, to gloss over the current case she was working on.

After the KOF tournament held by Franz Stroheim is over, Mary is taking care of Marky while Terry is with her cousin Kevin. However, Freeman ambushes them and attempt to kill her first before he will did the same to Marky. Thankfully, Mary and Marky unknowingly played a part to distract Freeman for Terry and Kevin to arrive in time and capture him. Once Freeman has been successfully captured, she and Terry are embarrassed that both Marky and Kevin already figured out that the pairs are already in relationship, which they support.

Overview

Personality and attributes

In appearance, Mary Ryan had short blonde hair in a bob cut, blue eyes, and a muscular body. Typically, she wore a small sleeveless red crop top, loose blue jeans with the sign of a star and brown boots along with a brown belt around the jeans. On her hands, she wore blue fingerless gloves and a green leather jacket that she tended to take off before fights. She went by the name of Blue Mary (ブルー・マリー) but was also known as the S Class Woman (Sクラスの女, Esukurasu no on'na).

Mary had a jacket that once belonged to her former lover named Butch who gave it to her as a gift.

Blue Mary is very friendly towards everyone, but she knows or thinks that her job must come first before everything else. Mary developed a strong bond with Terry, they seem to have a genuine care and fondness with each other.

She was the granddaughter of Tatsumi Suoh (周防 辰巳, Suō Tatsumi) who was a Japanese kobujutsu master that trained Geese Howard.

Blue Mary had a pet dog named Anton which normally accompanied her to wherever she had a fight.

Powers and abilities

It was known that she was taught martial arts by Butch with her using Commando Sambo fighting style.
