Biography
Original
Birdy Cephon Altera (Japanese: バーディー·シフォン·アルテラ, Hepburn: Bādī Shifon Arutera) was an Ixioran Altan, a bio-engineered super soldier. As a child she was cared for by a marionette named Violin and was trained by the Space Federation Police to become an elite police investigator, in the reboot manga she was also taught to never kill no matter the case and sacrifice herself if needed. Roughly at ten years old, Birdy was caught up in a terrorist attack on the Central Tower where her caretaker Violin was killed by a Berseker type unit, afterwards Birdy went berserk and destroyed the unit, she then fainted and was saved from the collapsing building by Skelezzo. In Decode Birdy was saved by her childhood friend Nataru Shinmoyu who travelled back in time to rescue her and hand her over to nearby Federation officers. Due to this event she received the unofficial moniker "Berserker Killer Birdy", her moniker proceeds her as her adversaries and even colleagues tend to know her first by it before they even meet her, this sometimes causes confusion as others believe she received this moniker due to extremely violent tendencies rather than her ability to defeat the Berserker units, although she does exhibit extreme violence at times, it was a misrepresentation of hers which she generally did not like.
While tracking a fugitive, she confronted her target with swift and powerful hand-to-hand combat techniques, using her superior strength and agility to overwhelm him. During the battle, she accidentally killed high school student Tsutomu Senkawa, who had stumbled into the conflict. To remedy this mistake, she used her advanced technology to merge his consciousness with her own body, allowing him to survive within her while she continued her mission on Earth. Birdy continued her pursuit of alien criminals while struggling with the awkward situation of sharing her body with Tsutomu. When another alien criminal appeared, she engaged him using her combat prowess, combining brute strength with energy-based weaponry integrated into her Federation equipment. She fought with precision and adaptability, demonstrating her alien physiology’s speed and resilience, ultimately subduing the opponent. Meanwhile, Tsutomu’s consciousness provided internal commentary and protests as Birdy carried out her violent duties, highlighting the tension between their dual existence. Birdy faced further challenges as both an investigator and host to Tsutomu. When another hostile alien appeared, she pursued him across an urban setting, using her flight capabilities and agility to corner him. The combat escalated into destructive clashes where she used energy projection to disable the enemy. Her role as a Federation agent was emphasized through her efficiency and determination in neutralizing threats, while Tsutomu’s consciousness inside her body complicated matters by reacting to the violence and destruction around them. Birdy remained steadfast in carrying out her mission, regardless of her host’s discomfort.
Reboot
Overview
Personality and attributes
In appearance, Birdy Cephon Altera was portrayed as a tall, athletic, and strikingly attractive woman with long flowing hair, often colored pink in adaptations, and bright, piercing eyes. Her alien heritage was reflected in her slim yet muscular build, granting her an imposing and graceful figure. She wore her distinctive Federation uniform, a form-fitting suit designed for mobility and combat.
Birdy was a energetic, quick to anger, self confident young adult who has a strong sense of justice and at times lacks common sense and etiquette, depending on the continuity, Birdy is tactless and very blunt about her feelings and intentions which usually leads to comedic conversations with others around her who are aware of her blunders. Despite these traits, Birdy can also be a very sharp detective and recognize details others cannot partially thanks to her heightened senses, she is very caring, appreciates anyone friendly towards her even those who are only mildly helpful, she will do anything to protect the lives of the innocents including sacrificing her own life if it means saving others. In the reboot manga and its sequel Birdy is also extremely opposed to any sort of killing even if her own life is at risk, this trait is not shared with her other incarnations where she will kill if necessary.
Birdy was depicted as strong-willed, confident, and aggressive in battle, reflecting her training as a Federation officer. Despite her tough exterior, she carried a sense of responsibility and compassion, particularly in how she took accountability for Tsutomu’s accidental death and worked to ensure his survival. She was determined, duty-driven, and somewhat reckless, often throwing herself into combat situations with little hesitation. The duality of her life as both an alien warrior and host to a human consciousness added layers of tension, as she balanced her pragmatic mission focus with moments of frustration and empathy.
Powers and abilities
In powers, Birdy’s physiology as an Altiran granted her superhuman strength, speed, and durability far beyond human limits. She could fly unaided and withstand powerful physical and energy-based attacks.
In addition to her natural alien abilities, she wielded advanced Federation technology, including energy weapons and equipment integrated into her suit. Her body could sustain the presence of an additional consciousness due to Altiran biological and technological enhancements, which allowed her to host Tsutomu while still functioning as an investigator.
Birdy has enhanced physical abilities which allow her to perform her duties as an officer more easily, as well as an assortment of gadgets that assist her.
