(Avengers Academy v1 #24)
Mighty Avengers
Ava joined the Heroes for Hire, along with Luke Cage and Víctor Álvarez, the new Power Man. They were seen preventing Plunderer's men from stealing robot parts. When the Superior Spider-Man stopped Plunderer, he considered the Heroes for Hire team to be a team of mercenaries. Afterwards. White Tiger ended up quitting the team where they all started believing they were meant for something more and decided to create their own Avengers team. (Mighty Avengers v2 #1)
Since joining the Mighty Avengers, Ava and Victor bonded tremendously, together they discovered two new abilities to fuse her White Tiger God based powers and his chi manipulation. The first being him able to move chi from people within their area into Ava creating a White Tiger made out of chi. (Mighty Avengers v2 #4.INH) The tiger was so powerful that it was able to destroy a splinter of Shuma-Gorath. (Mighty Avengers v2 #3)
Feeling grateful that Victor enabled her to control that kind of power, she later repaid him by transferring some of her power to him. Being that Ava had a lot more chi than the average person, it gave Victor tremendous amounts of power, enough to take out a Cerberus or demonic three-headed dog. He and Ava called their combo the "New York Tiger-Style Kung Fu." (Mighty Avengers v2 #5.INH)
In Secret Wars. Ava went to her home in order to reconcile with her family with the looming destruction of the world. Overview
Personality and attributes
Personality-wise, Ava was marked by her fierce independence and a deep-seated sense of duty. Beneath her hardened exterior lay a strong moral compass and an unwavering loyalty to her family’s name. She carried her brother’s memory as both inspiration and burden, often haunted by the circumstances of his death and the fear of repeating his mistakes. While her tone could be brusque, and her patience limited, Ava’s compassion manifested in action rather than words—especially toward those struggling to control their own powers or identity. She viewed herself as a protector rather than a celebrity, and her disdain for arrogance or corruption often placed her at odds with others in positions of authority. (Mighty Avengers v2 #12)
Over time, Ava’s mastery of the amulet deepened, allowing her to channel its energy into powerful bursts of mystical force and temporary transformations that merged her consciousness with the Tiger God’s. These moments granted her immense strength but risked losing her humanity. Her ability to resist that pull became the true measure of her heroism—not the enemies she defeated, but the divine fury she kept contained within. Her journey as White Tiger was one of balance: between family and legacy, power and restraint, vengeance and justice. (Mighty Avengers v2 #13)
By embracing her destiny without surrendering to it, she transformed the White Tiger from a symbol of vengeance into one of disciplined power and self-determination. Through her strength, intelligence, and unyielding sense of honor, she ensured that the spirit of the Tiger God—and the memory of her family—would endure not as a curse, but as a living testament to courage and resilience. (Mighty Avengers v2 #14)
Upon her introduction, Ava stated the White Tiger was a family legacy that she intended to honor. She also criticized classmate Reptil for not being more active in the Hispanic community. (Avengers Academy v1 #21)
Initially, her demeanor was cold and confrontational, a reflection of her distrust toward others and her frustration with being seen as a replacement for her brother. She clashed frequently with her peers, particularly those who treated heroism as a calling rather than a responsibility. Despite her abrasiveness, she quickly proved herself as one of the most skilled combatants among the recruits, her mastery of martial arts and acrobatic precision matched only by her ferocity in combat. Her loyalty to her family’s legacy and her unwillingness to compromise on moral integrity made her both respected and feared among her teammates. (Avengers Academy v1 #22)
She was regarded as the baby of the family not because she was the youngest but because her sisters had children by the time Ava was born. Ava had said that it was nice having everyone fuss over her but at the same time it was a lonely life as everyone in her family had grown up lives. (Avengers Academy v1 #24)
Her brother Hector had been the first big-name Hispanic super hero with Ava worshipping him but had never realised how hard a life he had lived. He always seemed so sad with the young Ava once asking her parents about it and they told her that they would tell her the reason when she was older. However, her parents were later killed because of a villain targeting the White Tiger's family and Hector was said to had died on the inside that day. Afterwards, he almost never visited Ava when she stayed with their sister because he blamed himself for their parents death and feared it would happen again to his siblings. Despite this, she still admired him and said that he dedicated his life to being a hero which meant he never would have wanted innocent people to die because of him. (Avengers Academy v1 #24)
Ava said that she held people up to high standards because her brother sacrificed so much to be a hero that she expected similar things from others though later admitted that this was not fair on anybody. (Avengers Academy v1 #24)
In her time fighting alongside veteran heroes, Ava developed a close yet often volatile mentorship under Luke Cage and Monica Rambeau, who recognized both her potential and her recklessness. Through them, she learned to temper her rage with strategy and to view heroism as more than vengeance or obligation. Her involvement with the reformed team of street-level heroes known as the Mighty Avengers allowed her to channel her power in defense of those without protection—an ideal that aligned with her brother’s original dream. Ava’s leadership qualities emerged during these missions, revealing her capacity to inspire others despite her youth and guarded nature. (Mighty Avengers v2 #7)
Powers and abilities
She was considered a Gamma Level Threat in the power index according to one assessment. (Captain America and the Mighty Avengers v1 #1)
The magic tiger amulets gave their user mystically enhanced strength, agility and incredible fighting skills. Their origins were traced to pieces of a statue from the hidden city of K'un-Lun. (Avengers Academy v1 #24) The source of her power came from an entity within the amulets that resembled a jade tiger. (Avengers Academy v1 #36) The entity was said to be older than the Immortal Cities and was an eternal being where it presided over the death of the Dinosaurs. (Avengers Academy v1 #24) The Amulets also sustained Ava, so she did not need to sleep or eat as long as she wore them. (New Avengers v4 #7)
The White Tiger’s abilities extended beyond physical power. Through her connection to the Tiger God, Ava could sense traces of danger and deception, moving with uncanny foresight in battle. Her reflexes bordered on precognition, allowing her to evade gunfire or strike before opponents could react. Yet, these gifts came with an emotional cost. The divine force within her was not merely power—it was a presence, ancient and proud, that sought to assert dominance over her will. Ava’s inner conflict became a central part of her journey, as she struggled to remain in control while wielding a spirit that demanded blood and conquest. (Mighty Avengers v2 #3)
Unlike her brother, who had struggled to balance the amulet’s influence with his humanity, Ava approached the bond with discipline and focus, determined not to be consumed by it. The spirit within the amulet amplified her physical abilities to superhuman levels, enhancing her strength, speed, agility, and reflexes to those of a predatory cat. It also sharpened her senses beyond human limits, granting her an instinctual awareness of her surroundings. However, the bond carried a constant risk—the presence of the Tiger God whispered to her, urging violence and dominance, testing her willpower at every turn. (Avengers Academy v1 #21) The amulets were known to sometimes protect her from harm and could stop beings from controlling her mind. Alsso unlike her brother Hector, Ava was shown to somewhat struggle to control the power of the amulets which at times took control over her body. (Avengers Academy v1 #24)
