Biography

Pre-Crisis

Asmodeus

Asmodeus alongside Satan, Any, Belial, Beelzebub, and Careteis came to empower a mortal champion for hell. By uttering the word Sabbac, Tim Karnes was empowered by the demon lords into becoming a superpowered being. The villain sets out to achieve his goal by sabotaging all railways crossing the Rocky Mountains to effectively split America in two. He's interrupted in his task by Captain Marvel Junior again, but they were too evenly matched in a fight, and SABBAC slips away to resume his plans. He tries to keep a new tunnel from being dug, but is intercepted by Junior. A look at the young hero's determined face overpowers the evil courage of Asmodeus, who flees. Things continue to go from bad to worse, with each demon deciding there's no point in continuing the fight and abandoning Karnes, stripping away each of his powers until he's just the helpless occult dabbler. (Captain Marvel, Jr. v1 #4)

Post-Crisis

Following the Crisis on Infinite Earths, a new version of reality was created with a different history of events. Asmodeus was said to be the son of Naamah and the Phantom Stranger.

Yet, another account claimed that Asmodeus was the firstborn of Lilith and an archduke of Hell. The witch Sybil Haden summoned him and attempted to bind him so she could order Asmodeus to get revenge on Annie Mojo, a rival witch. Asmodeus was too powerful for her to bind, and scoffed at her problems, but told her she would have had better luck trying to summon and bind the demon Etrigan, who lived in Gotham City. (Demon v3 #22)
