Biography
Alex Wilder
A year before telling the others, Alex stumbled onto his parents and the Pride performing the Rite of Blood. Alex began searching for answers and discovered Abstract, which he slowly learned to decode. He learned about the Pride's past and their plans for the future. One night while he was looking through the Pride's materials, Alex overheard the Hayes' and the Deans' plans to kill the human members of the Pride, he decided to do whatever was necessary to save his parents. (Runaways v1 #17)
The next year on the night of the Rite of Blood, Alex led Nico Minoru, Gertrude Yorkes, and Chase Stein down the secret passage to 'accidentally' see the ritual sacrifice of Destiny Gonzales while Karolina Dean and Molly Hayes remained upstairs. (Runaways v1 #1)
To force their children into surrendering, the Wilders framed Alex and the others for the murder of Destiny Gonzales and the kidnapping of Molly Hayes. Together the group decided to become runaways and fugitives, to take up residence in the Hostel, and Alex became the de facto leader. The majority of the group with the exception of Alex decide to take superhero codenames for themselves as they begin their new lives as full-time vigilantes. However, Alex distances himself emotionally from many of the Runaways, even refusing to take a codename or bond with the rest of the team. (Runaways v1 #6)
With their hideout compromised and the Rite of Thunder approaching, the Runaways decided to take the battle to their parents and followed them into the Marine Vivarium. Alex was able to systematically eliminate his friends until he could explain his plans to his parents and Nico. Nico angrily refused Alex's offer and he lost control of the situation. The Gibborim entered during the chaos and confusion and they quickly killed Alex for disrespecting them. The remaining Runaways were barely able to escape the destruction of the Vivarium in the Leapfrog. (Runaways v1 #17) Despite his betrayal, Nico later cast a spell trying to magically resurrect him, but it failed. (Runaways v2 #2)
When Alex's former online role-playing game friends Stretch, Hunter, Lotus, and Oscar learned of his death, they banded together and attempted to resurrect him. Instead, the spell killed Oscar and brought a young Geoffrey Wilder to the present. (Runaways v2 #14)
Overview
Personality and attributes
In appearance, Alex Wilder was a teenage male human of African-American descent, with a lean but slightly tall build, upright posture, and an understated presence that often suggested a mind always at work. His facial features were sharp and youthful—angular cheekbones, short-trimmed black hair, and dark brown eyes typically hidden behind rectangular, black-framed glasses that enhanced his studious demeanor. His expression rarely betrayed his emotions, often resting in a serious, thoughtful look that revealed little about his deeper intentions. His clothing style was practical and modest, favoring simple hooded sweatshirts, fitted T-shirts, and jeans, all in neutral tones that didn’t draw attention. He dressed like someone who blended into a room, not out of shyness, but to observe undisturbed, to calculate unnoticed. (Runaways v1 #1)
Though the son of wealthy philanthropists Geoffrey and Catherine Wilder, Alex's intellect was his most defining trait. In contrast to the more fantastical backgrounds of his peers, he exhibited no apparent superhuman powers during the early stages of his story. Instead, he brought to the group leadership, tactical planning, and hacking skills. He was a master strategist and quick thinker with a talent for computers, cryptography, and systems infiltration—evidenced by his ability to bypass the Pride's digital defenses and guide the other Runaways to uncover their parents’ criminal activities. Alex often acted as the de facto leader of the group, organizing their actions with a calm, intellectual authority. However, beneath that composed surface lay a conflicted loyalty that would later unravel into betrayal, rooted in a deeply ingrained belief in familial bonds, even when they contradicted morality. (Runaways v1 #1)
Powers and abilities
Alex Wilder was born an ordinary human being with no inherent powers or abilities. However, he was noted for being a child prodigy in the fields of logic and strategy. (Runaways v1 #1)
Whilst in Hell, Alex studied the advice of former criminal masterminds and expert strategists, such as Al Capone, Genghis Khan, and Sun Tzu, with the goal of learning from their mistakes and becoming New York's most formidable crimelord, preserving his parents' legacy. (Power Man and Iron Fist v3 #14)
After his 'resurrection', Alex was said to not be truly alive. He did not age nor did he need to eat. Meanwhile, touching his corpse conveyed an uncomfortable feeling. (Runaways v5 #19)

Television
- In Runaways, Alex Wilder appeared in the Hulu live-action television series where he was portrayed by actor Rhenzy Feliz. He was born the son of Catherine and Geoffrey Wilder. Due to his parents being closely affiliated with the members of PRIDE, Wilder grew up befriending the children of the organization's members. However, when Alex was young, a family from PRIDE, the Hernandez's, were killed in an explosion. Alex attended the funeral, but was mostly oblivious to what had happened. He then played with his friends in another room at the celebration of life. Wilder became particularly close friends with Amy Minoru, as both of them shared the same passion for video games, with Minoru being aware that Wilder also had feelings for her younger sister Nico. However, while they were playing together in the Timely Coffee, Wilder was asked by Amy to examine her laptop and Wilder told her that she had been hacked. Much to Wilder's bewilderment, this caused Amy to panic and leave the café. Wilder learned that Minoru had hacked into Wizard's servers. He offered to accompany her when she would tell that to her mother Tina, but Minoru refused, and Wilder did not insist. Shortly after, however, Minoru died, apparently committing suicide, and Wilder felt responsible for what had happened. Alex prepared to enter the Minoru Mansion for Amy's funeral, but found it hard to go in as he did not want to say goodbye. He instead leaned against his car, crying. Alex's mother met him outside later, wondering what had happened. Alex explained his feelings and how he wished he knew how much Amy was struggling. He just wished he was there for her. Feeling betrayed by Alex, the children of PRIDE all split up and discontinued being friends. In 2017, Wilder was at school and tried helping to wheel a television down the ramp. However, the cord got stuck on the corner, causing Wilder to ask bystanders for help. To his annoyance, he did nor receive any help, even from people who passed by him. He saw Nico Minoru sitting by a tree and tried to get her attention. However, she had earbuds in, so she did not hear him. Wilder then tried to grab the cord on his own, causing the television to slide down the ramp. Wilder caught it in time, but voiced his annoyance in the people around him. Wilder then walked up to his bus for a school trip. When he walked in, he saw Karolina Dean, Molly Hernandez, Nico Minoru, Chase Stein, as well as another version of Alex Wilder. Confused, Wilder asked what was going on. Hernandez simply told him they were time travelers before Minoru used a mind wipe spell. Wilder then woke up, sitting on the bus, forgetting what happened,
