Biography
Akane Tsunemori (Japanese: 常守 朱, Hepburn: Tsunemori Akane) was a Japanese human born in Chiba where she was the daughter of Shoichi Tsunemori and his wife.
The 20 year old came to join Division One of the Public Safety Bureau's Criminal Investigation Division where she joined as a rookie Inspector.
Tsunemori arrived at a rain-slicked crime scene for her first day of duty as an Inspector with the Public Safety Bureau's Criminal Investigation Department. She received an immediate briefing regarding a kidnapped woman and the pursuit of a suspect whose Crime Coefficient exceeded the legal limit. Despite her lack of field experience, she took command of a team of Enforcers, including Shinya Kogami and Nobuchika Ginoza, and followed them into a complex industrial area. When the suspect’s mental state deteriorated further, causing his Dominator-measured threat level to rise, she witnessed the Enforcers use lethal force. However, the situation shifted when the victim, traumatised by the event, also saw her own Psycho-Pass cloud, triggering the Dominator to authorize a lethal strike against her as well. Akane intervened to stop Kogami from firing his weapon at the innocent woman, eventually using her own Dominator to stun the Enforcer instead. She then used calm words and physical comfort to de-escalate the victim’s emotional distress, successfully lowering the woman's Crime Coefficient until the weapon no longer registered her as a threat. (Episode: Crime Coefficient) Akane reported to the Public Safety Bureau’s headquarters the morning after her first assignment to undergo a formal evaluation regarding her conduct in the field. She faced a stern reprimand from Inspector Ginoza for her decision to fire a Dominator at Enforcer Shinya Kogami, an action that resulted in his hospitalisation. During her scheduled physical and mental health check-ups, she discovered that her own Psycho-Pass remained remarkably clear and stable despite the traumatic events she had witnessed. She later visited the medical facility to check on Kogami’s recovery, where she engaged in a candid conversation with him about the moral complexities of their work. Kogami expressed his gratitude for her intervention, stating that her choice to treat the victim as a human being rather than a target had validated his own sense of justice. Following this interaction, she officially began her integration into the daily routines of Division 1, familiarising herself with the specialized equipment and the specific roles of the other Enforcers under her command. Personality and attributes
In appearance, Akane Tsunemori was a female human of petite proportions with brown eyes, short brown hair and pale complexion.
Her ID as an Inspector was 00475-AECJ-30157-1 and after being assigned to Division One she was given the designation of Shepherd 2. After Ginoza's demotion, she came to replace him and took the designation of Shepherd 1.
Powers and abilities
As an Inspector, she came to be provided a Dominator Portable Psychological Diagnosis and Suppression System (Japanese: 携帯型心理診断鎮圧執行システム Romaji: Keitai-gata shinri shindan chin'atsu shikkō shisutemu) that she used during field operations.
