Aerith Gainsborough was discovered by Cloud Strife inside the Sector 5 Church after Cloud Strife plummeted through the roof of the structure following his battle on the Sector 5 Mako Reactor bridge. While she was carefully tending to a rare patch of yellow flowers growing out from the broken floorboards, she watched Cloud Strife regain consciousness and casually initiated a conversation, instantly recognizing him as the mercenary she had briefly met on Loveless Avenue. Their conversation was abruptly interrupted when Reno of the Turks arrived with a squad of Shinra security forces to forcefully apprehend her. Cloud Strife immediately stepped forward to act as her personal bodyguard, engaging the soldiers in a close-quarters melee while Aerith Gainsborough executed a rapid escape path toward the upper rafters of the building. Although she accidentally broke through a rotted wooden beam and fell to a lower level, Cloud Strife threw down several physical barrels to distract the guards, allowing Aerith Gainsborough to navigate the structural debris safely and successfully flee the compound alongside him. She stood on a street corner along Loveless Avenue in Sector 8 of Midgar, holding a woven basket of yellow flowers following the sudden explosion of the Sector 1 Mako Reactor. As chaotic crowds scattered through the urban streets, she crossed paths with Cloud Strife, who had just successfully escaped from the nearby reactor site. Aerith Gainsborough approached him and offered to sell him a single flower for the price of one gil. Following their brief exchange, the conversation was abruptly cut short due to the sudden arrival of Shinra security forces aggressively mobilizing to sweep the area for rebels. Recognizing the imminent danger, Aerith Gainsborough turned and quickly retreated into the crowded city streets to avoid being caught in the military crossfire, leaving Cloud Strife behind to face the incoming soldiers.
