Cameron Hodge is a male comic supervillain who features in Marvel Comics.

Biography

Origin

Battling the X-Men as a cyborg in Uncanny X-Men v1 #271.

Cameron Hodge was a male human born in the modern age on Earth. An old college roommate of Warren Worthington III's, Cameron Hodge went on to a profitable advertising career, working in New York. (X-Factor v1 #1) Hodge got a license to practice law as well. (X-Factor v1 #12) When Worthington grew wings and became the mutant hero Angel. Hodge who was from a long line of wealthy men came to grow bitter and full of hate towards Warren. (X-Factor v1 #23) After becoming a lawyer, Hodge then turned to advertising and public relations and became a highly successful member of a leading New York City advertising agency. (X-Factor v1 #1) Meanwhile, he secretly created an organization devoted to the destruction of all mutants called the Right. Hodge was the leader of the group and was known as the Commander. (X-Factor v1 #17)

X-Factor

Worthington contacted Hodge and asked him to study the mutant phenomenon. He wanted to put together a mutant organization that acted as a human defense against mutants, but secretly was bringing in young mutants and providing them refuge. After studying the problem through surveys and polls, Hodge and Worthington put together the X-Factor idea and Hodge began running ad campaigns, including a toll free number where humans could call to report potential mutant sightings. Angel then introduced Hodge to his companions Beast, Iceman, Cyclops, and Marvel Girl. Hodge presented the X-Factor idea and the mutants agreed to pose as mutant hunters. Soon, the team went out on their first call, rescuing and recruiting young Rusty Collins. (X-Factor v1 #1) Hodge reported to Worthington on the high numbers on crank calls they had been receiving. (X-Factor v1 #2) Cameron later consoled Vera Cantor, who was waiting patiently for the return of the Beast after he had been returned to his human form. Hodge then met with Senator Thompson, an ally of Worthington's who reported that X-Factor may be doing more harm then good. Meanwhile, X-Factor rescued another Mutant by the name of Artie Maddicks. (X-Factor v1 #3) Hodge alerted the team to another call, but it turned out to be a false alarm. Later, Hodge was present when Artie alerted them to danger Rusty was in. As X-Factor rushed off, Hodge waited with Artie. X-Factor retrieved Rusty and lectured him on the danger he could have faced. (X-Factor v1 #4) He later took a call from Suzy Nowlan about suspected mutant Michael Nowlan. Despite doubts that Michael was actually a mutant, Hodge convinced X-Factor to go and investigate mutant sightings of their foes Frenzy and Tower. (X-Factor v1 #5)

X-Factor returned from their mission to California, though there was media suspicion that they were associated with mutants and responsible for recent mutant murders. Trish Tilby came to report on the events and Hodge did his best to allay suspicions from the team, who he ushered inside. When mutants Bulk and Glowworm attacked, Cyclops, Iceman, and Beast, posing as the mutant X-Terminators, pretended to join them in the attack. Hodge, Vera, and Rusty joined Marvel Girl and Angel in X-Factor uniforms and feigned a triumph over the team. (X-Factor v1 #7) Hodge appeared on the news, interviewing about X-Factor's operations. (New Mutants v1 #51) While X-Factor was out on a mission, Hodge received guests Sasha Yasinov and Nikoli Uzbek, representatives from the Soviet Union who demanded to speak to X-Factor. When they finally returned, Hodge briefed the team and they soon came in to hear the guests, who wanted to hear X-Factor's secrets of tracking down mutants. While X-Factor thought it over, Hodge contacted Thompson and learned that there was political pressure for X-Factor to go and that several Soviet mutants were in danger. They met privately with Thompson, but X-Factor didn't trust him initially due to his involvement on the Senate Committee for Mutant Affairs, but Thompson earned their trust when he showed them pictures of dissected Soviet mutants. They learned that Dr. Wolfgang Heinreich was behind the plot and X-Factor agreed to go stop him, which they soon did. (X-Factor Annual v1 #1)

Unknown to the rest of X-Factor, Hodge arranged for the Right to kidnap the young mutant known as Rictor in hopes of creating an earthquake that could be blamed on mutants, but X-Factor foiled their scheme and rescued Rictor. (X-Factor v1 #17)

Inferno

Cameron Hodge later made a pact with the demon N'astirh. He would provide it with Mutant babies for his scheme to invade Earth with demons, and Hodge was told that he would not die in his next battle with the mutants. During this time, he was granted the gift of immortality. (X-Factor v1 #32) Warren Worthington's fiancée, Candy Southern, was kidnapped by Hodge, who killed her to get back at Worthington, who was now Archangel. At the end of that battle, Archangel's new metallic wings beheaded Hodge, possibly against his volition. (X-Factor v1 #34)

Among his first captives was the alien Warlock, and Hodge attempted to siphon off his shape-shifting power so he could change his spider-form at will. His plan seemed to be thwarted by Warlock's friend Wolfsbane, but Warlock died anyway. (New Mutants v1 #95)

Initially, he kept his identity as the leader of the Right a secret where he was only referred to as the Commander. (X-Factor v1 #17)

Powers and abilities

He came to the founder of the anti-Mutant organization known as the Right which he established using funds stolen from Warren Worthington III. It was shown that Hodge had the resources to design powerful suits of armor for them along with holographic technology and helmets that blocked Mutant powers from working directly on them. (X-Factor v1 #22)

• Cameron Hodge was created by Bob Layton and Jackson Guice where he made his first appearance in X-Factor v1 #1 (February, 1986).

Alternate Versions

• In New X-Men v2 (2005), a version of Cameron Hodge was shown to exist in the House of M reality. This version was a member of the supremacist terrorist organization known as the Human Liberation Front that were targeting Emperor Sunfire's Project Genesis program that was intended to forcibly turn Humans into Mutants. He was involved in an attack on the New Mutant Leadership Program at the United Nations but was arrested. In reality, his true target was S.H.I.E.L.D. agent Sean Garrison that was one of the masterminds of Project Genesis. Afterwards, S.H.I.E.L.D. agents Josh Foley and Kevin Ford were ready to torture Hodge when Agent Noriko Ashida arrived on the scene. Norika was the daughter of Hodge's old comrade Seiji Ashida and had learnt from Cameron her father's location. Hodge later convinced Noriko to kill him after he feared torture at the hands of agents Foley and Ford.
• In Extinction Agenda (2015), a version of the character was shown to reside on Battleworld. This version was shown to had been killed but his head still survived and retrieved by the Genegineer at Genosha. The scientist was secretly working to eliminate Mutants and had created the Extinction Plague to achieve this goal. Whilst that was ravaging the Mutant population, the Genengineer conducted experiments on the Transmode Virus that he recovered from the remains of Warlock which he used to infect Hodge who had been placed in a new Adamantium designed body. During a battle between the Mutant factions, the container for the virus was shattered and Hodge was freed from containment where he proceeded with attacking the X-Men.

Television

• In X-Men: The Animated Series, the character appeared first in a cameo role then as an antagonist where he was voiced by actor Stephen Ouimette. He was initially shown as a lawyer for Hank McCoy who was the X-Man known as Beast that had been captured at the Mutant Control Agency. Afterwards, it was mentioned that he became the ambassador working for the Genoshan government that had a policy of oppressing Mutants. The Genoshan government was later overthrown due to the actions of the X-Men and Hodge was shown to had lost an army as well as a leg at he hands of Cable. As a result, Cameron Hodge vowed to get revenge with this opportunity emerging when the Phalanx spread to Earth. He willingly joined the techno-organic Phalanx that provided him a new body and revenge in exchange for his aid in assimilating the entire planet along with its inhabitants. Hodge was defeated when the few uninfected Mutants that consisted of Amelia Voght, Forge, Magneto, Mister Sinister and Warlock managed to drive the Phalanx from Earth. In the aftermath, Cameron Hodge attempted to flee when he was restored to his human body. He was later mentioned in passing by a rogue military group that intended to gain an advantage over Mutants.

Video games

• In X-Men: Destiny, Cameron Hodge appeared as an antagonist in the video game where he was voiced by actor Keith Ferguson. He was shown as a member of the Purifiers and had been responsible for recruiting members by instilling in them hateful views of Mutants. During this time, the Purifiers had formed an alliance with the U-Men that farmed Mutant powers that were given to a Prime Enforcer Suit. Hodge used such a suit to battle Mutants and intended to re-negotiate the Purifiers alliances as they intended to rule alone. He was defeated in a boss battle against the player's character.
• In X-Men: Battle of the Atom, Cameron Hodge appeared as a playable card in the iOS video card game.
