Biography
Gendo Rokubungi (六分儀, meaning sextant) was a male human born in the modern age where he lived in Japan. During his study at university, he came to meet Yui Ikari where the two started a relationship. From Yui, he was introduced to Professor Kozo Fuyutsuki who came to dislike Geno due to his own unspoken romantic feelings for his student. In addition, he came to suspect that Gendo had ulterior motives in pursuing a relationship with Yui that were tied to her connections with a shadowy organisation known as SEELE. In time, Gendo and Yui came to be married at the beginning of the 21st century where he came to take her name and was known as Gendo Ikari (Japanese: 碇 ゲンドウ, Hepburn: Ikari Gendō). In late 2000, Gendo came to join the Katsuragi Expedition to Antarctica alongside SEELE chairman Keel Lorenz in order to see the recovery project over the mysterious being known as Adam. This chain of events led to a cataclysmic incident known as the Second Impact with Gendo and his team leaving Antarctica shortly afterwards. In 2001, he and Yui came to have a son together who was one of the children born after the Second Impact where they named the boy Shinji Ikari

Notes
- Geno Ikari was created by Gainax, Hideaki Anno and Yoshiyuki Sadamoto where he featured in the setting of Neon Genesis Evangelion.
- At Anime Expo '96, an interview with Hideaki Anno stated, "Gendo is the type of person who can see & think about the welfare of an organization as a whole. In other words, he'd do anything to succeed. He takes drastic and extreme measures, by fair means or foul, or by hook or by crook, in order to accomplish his own purpose. In some ways he's mean, he hardly cares about Shinji."
