History

Veritas was a secret society formed by Dr. Virgil Swann around 1987 were their central purpose revolved around a Kryptonian prophecy concerning the arrival of an alien being, whom they called the Traveler. The group had been established nearly two decades prior by Dr. Virgil Swann, who brought together three other powerful and influential couples: Lionel Luthor and Lillian Luthor, Robert and Laura Queen, and Edward and Genevieve Teague. Their alliance was sparked by Dr. Swann’s decoding of a transmission from outer space—a Kryptonian message that prophesied the imminent arrival of a powerful alien being named the Traveler. The founders retrieved two mysterious Kryptonian keys that were necessary to open the Kawatche Caves’ second level and access the fabled Fortress of Solitude. While Dr. Swann advocated for protecting the prophesied visitor, internal dissent quickly arose as Lionel Luthor and the Teagues became obsessed with seizing control of the alien power for their own gain. This ideological schism rapidly escalated into betrayal and murder; Robert and Laura Queen were killed in a plane crash orchestrated by Lionel, and the society imploded in violence and distrust. The members were deeply divided on their mission where some like Dr. Swann and his assistant Bridgette Crosby, believed they were meant to protect the Traveler, while others, notably Lionel Luthor and the Teagues, sought to control or even destroy him to prevent a potential invasion.
