Biography

Zack Thompson in Tech Jacket v1 #1.

Zack Thompson

Zack Thompson’s first encounter with the Tech Jacket began when Gelderian soldiers attacked his home, putting his family in immediate danger. In the chaos, Zack came into possession of the Gelderian armor when it bonded to his body, permanently fusing with him. The hostile soldiers were repelled as the suit activated around him, augmenting his body with alien technology he could not remove. His initial moments with the armor were filled with confusion as he tried to understand what had happened to him while fending off the attack. (Tech Jacket v1 #1) Following this initial conflict, Zack began testing the functions of the Tech Jacket, learning piece by piece what the alien armor allowed him to do. The suit automatically responded to his movements and protected him against external threats, allowing him to withstand fire and exert force far beyond his human capacity. As Zack tried to adjust, he was confronted by further alien opposition, forcing him to use the armor defensively and offensively in live combat. These encounters demonstrated the basic powers of the Tech Jacket and Zack’s growing realization of the gravity of the weapon that had bonded to him. (Tech Jacket v1 #2) In the wake of these clashes, Zack’s connection to the Tech Jacket deepened as the Gelderians continued to pursue him, attempting to reclaim the armor. He defended himself with increasing control over the armor’s arsenal, utilizing its flight systems and energy projection capabilities to hold his enemies at bay. The encounters revealed both the persistence of the Gelderians and the necessity for Zack to keep the armor functioning as a defense against their ongoing attacks. His battles established him as the unwilling but active bearer of the Tech Jacket, locked in conflict with the aliens who had once wielded it. (Tech Jacket v1 #3)

Zack Thompson found himself as the sole and most powerful line of defense for the planet Geldaria. Due to his innate human physical strength, which made his Tech Jacket exponentially more powerful than any Geldarian could wield, Zack had surpassed all their warriors during his month of intensive training. When the Kresh began their final, large-scale assault, Zack rose to the challenge and led the Geldarian army against an armada of enemy troops in a critical space battle. He utilized the Tech Jacket's extensive capabilities, which included energy projection, enhanced strength, and flight, to single-handedly decimate the Kresh forces, turning the tide of the decades-long war. His overwhelming power proved too much for the Kresh, forcing them into a full retreat. Having effectively ended the war, the grateful Geldarians released Zack from any further obligations, and he began the journey back to Earth, where he expected to return to his normal life. Overview

Personality and attributes

In appearance, Zack Thompson was an ordinary teenage boy with a lean build, short hair, and features typical of a high school student, but when bonded with the Tech Jacket he was encased in a full-body alien exosuit. The armor formed an angular, biomechanical shell that enveloped him completely, leaving no part of his body exposed. Its design was sleek and metallic, segmented to allow movement while displaying glowing nodes of energy throughout. A helmet covered his head entirely, with a streamlined shape that reinforced its alien craftsmanship and separated him visually from other Earth-based heroes. (Tech Jacket v1 #1)

In terms of personality, Zack was introduced as a regular adolescent, somewhat insecure and awkward but resilient in the face of danger. When confronted with the sudden intrusion of alien soldiers and the permanent bonding of the Tech Jacket, he responded with a mixture of fear and determination. Despite being thrust into an overwhelming situation, Zack demonstrated quick adaptability and a willingness to protect his family, underscoring the sense of responsibility that guided his actions even as he struggled to understand the armor’s full potential. (Tech Jacket v1 #1)

Another aspect of Thompson's personality was his strong sense of responsibility and his natural inclination towards heroism, which was coupled with an almost impulsive decisiveness. Faced with an immense, galaxy-spanning conflict that had raged for decades, Zack did not hesitate to commit himself to the cause of defending the Geldarian race and later his home planet. He had spent a month in rigorous training, quickly surpassing his Geldarian counterparts due to his human physiology and the suit's capabilities, but when the final Kresh assault began, he fearlessly led the charge as their sole, most powerful warrior. His courage was demonstrated as he single-handedly decimated the Kresh armada in a critical space battle, effectively ending a long war and forcing the enemy into retreat. Even after he was released from his obligations and returned home, his heroic instinct persisted; when the Kresh followed him to Earth, he immediately sprang into action to protect his family and planet, ultimately embracing his role as Earth's "Planetary Guardian" without much internal conflict or a desire to abuse his power. Powers and abilities

Physiologically, Zack was a baseline human prior to his bonding with the Tech Jacket. The armor itself altered his physical capabilities whenever it encased him, reinforcing his body with immense strength, durability, and speed far beyond natural limits. It allowed him to survive without external support in hostile environments, enhanced his senses through alien targeting systems, and armed him with weaponry such as energy blasts and protective shielding. These functions were all integral parts of the Gelderian armor, which acted as both his defense and his means of countering enemy assaults. (Tech Jacket v1 #1)

The Tech Jacket was designed by the Geldarians, a physically weak, albeit intelligent, race to compensate for their frailty; however, when it bonded to Zack Thompson, a human with inherently greater muscle density and strength potential, the suit's power output was multiplied far beyond its intended capabilities for a native wearer. This immense strength was the decisive factor in the culminating space battle against the Kresh armada. Zack utilized this power to single-handedly perform incredible feats, such as effortlessly ripping through Kresh soldiers' armor, pushing and maneuvering massive spaceships with minimal effort, and ultimately overpowering an entire alien military force, thus bringing a decades-long war to an abrupt end. His raw power, rather than any other specific weapon, proved to be too much for the Kresh to withstand, forcing them into a full retreat. (Tech Jacket v1 #4)
