History
The Steltek was an ancient extraterrestrial race who established a galaxy-spanning empire who ruled an immense amount of space 2.4 billion years ago, long before humanity evolved. During this ancient epoch, the Steltek were the dominant power in the galaxy, ruling a powerful, galaxy-spanning empire. They were a highly advanced race, possessing technology far superior to anything the humans or Kilrathi had developed by the 27th century. Their civilization was prosperous for a long time; they even established a base on Mars, the relics of which were eventually discovered by human archaeologists in the distant future. However, their dominion came to a catastrophic end when they lost control over their own technological prowess, likely due to a devastating civil war. The weapons they had developed were far too powerful to be controlled, and they brought ruin upon themselves. Following this self-inflicted disaster, the surviving Steltek abandoned their empire and retreated deep into uncharted space, making it their solemn duty to seek out and destroy any remaining pockets of their dangerous technology they had left behind across the galaxy.
Overview
The Steltek grew weary of their power and retreated from known space to the center of the galaxy in order to live a tranquil life. Despite this, many pieces of their technology were left behind. After their civilization collapsed due to a catastrophic civil war and the misuse of their own powerful technology, the surviving Steltek retreated deep into uncharted space. They became an elusive, secretive race that devoted itself to finding and destroying remnants of their past technology. Any attempts by other species to follow them to their current "home"—wherever that may be—have reportedly not returned to tell the tale.
They were shown to had established bases on many worlds, including Mars.
