The Ebony Blade
Merlin gave the enchanted sword to Sir Percy of Scandia, the 'first' Black Knight although he was the ninth person to wield it, directly after King Arthur's cousin Sir Reginald. (New Excalibur v1 #12)
Sir Percy came to use the blade to fight off the Roman conqueror Tyrannus and injure his Olympian master Pluto. (Mystic Arcana Black Knight v1 #1)
Following the death of Sir Percy his son found the sword and vowed to wield it like his father. The sword was passed down through the centuries by Percy's descendants. No matter how noble the person the sword would eventually corrupt the wielder. (Black Knight: Curse of the Ebony Blade v1 #4)
The sword passed down through the generations until it finally came to Dane Whitman, Sir Percy's descendant, who used the blade for many years. (Marvel Super-Heroes v1 #17)
Soon after the first Secret Wars, the Ebony Blade was stolen by Mister E -- an entity of living darkness that had been created by the dark god Knull -- who believed it could be used to harm his master. (Symbiote Spider-Man: King in Black v1 #2)
The cursed asset began operating as an addictive psychological parasite, gradually corrupting the mind of its modern host, Dane Whitman, by inducing states of uncontrollable berserker rage and a physical craving for violence, which threatened to permanently turn his body into a mindless extension of the sword's dark history. Sean Dolan, Dane's ex-squire, was able to draw the blade during an attack on Whitman's castle, but succumbed to its power and transformed into the Bloodwraith. (Avengers Annual v1 #22)
During Knull's invasion of Earth, the dark god came to lead an army of Symbiotes in an attempt to conquer Earth. This saw the spirit of Sir Percy call on Dane Whitman and the Black Knight rising up to battle the alien parasites. (Mystic Arcana Black Knight v1 #1)

Notes
- The Ebony Blade was created by Stan Lee and Joe Maneely where it made its first appearance in Black Knight v1 #1 (May, 1955).
- On Newsrama, editor Nick Lowe clarified of the Ebony Blade in Black Panther, "The Black Knight in Black Panther wasn't ya' boy, Dane Whitman. It was an imposter who stole the sword from Dane. Now, since the imposter wasn't an idiot, he knew that if he outright stole the sword, Dane would come looking for it. So he replaced it with a different sword, so Dane didn't even know it was missing. We're touching on this in New Excalibur #14-15."
