When Heather was a young woman, the family were driving across the Mojave Desert from Las Vegas to Los Angeles when a spaceship carrying the Mad Titan named Thanos passed overhead on a surveillance mission to Earth. Wishing to keep his existence a secret, Thanos destroyed the automobile in case its passengers had seen his ship, and then landed to make certain they were dead. Satisfied that they killed and no one survived Thanos decided to leave the seen. Drax the Destroyer
Travelling through space, Drax came across a space station. He did not sense any life forms on board, but he entered the space station to investigate for clues on Thanos' location. Drax found Thanos, whose body was now turned into solid granite by Adam Warlock. Drax had felt like he had lost all purpose in life once again, for Thanos was once again slayed. Enraged, he quickly assumed that it was Captain Marvel who had slain Thanos. Drax travelled to Earth, and attacked Captain Marvel. The battle carried on for awhile, neither party giving up, but it finally ended when the human personification of ISAAC, the network computer which controls/governs over Titan, came to them requesting aid to save Titan from Thanos' remaining forces. Captain Marvel and Drax accepted the request, and traveled to Saturn. (Captain Marvel v1 #58) On the way to Titan, Drax reiterated his plans of destroying Captain Marvel after this problem on Titan was resolved. Mere moments after arriving in Titan, Drax and Captain Marvel came across Starfox and Mentor being attacked by giant spiders. They rescued the two, and went off to save the others, passing through a system of underground tunnels, by Mentor's request. Being cosmically aware and having noticed something suspicious, Captain Marvel then accused Eros of being an impostor. To Drax's surprise, both Eros and Mentor were impostors, leading them to the domain of Gaea, the earth god. They let the two impostors free, and made their way through the tunnels, arriving at Gaea's lair. Gaea's forces attacked Drax and Mar-Vell, but they managed to overcome them. Defeated, Gaea told Drax and Mar-Vell ISAAC's plan to continue Thanos' schemes. (Captain Marvel v1 #59)

(Guardians of the Galaxy v3 #18) Instead, Star-Lord used its power in an attempt to kill Thanos only to find the Mad Titan re-forming after his seeming demise. Thanos responded in kind in an attempt to kill Star-Lord only for Quill to similar to resurrected in this manner. Thus, they came to learn that the concept of death did not exist in this reality thus preventing them from dying as a result. This similarly led to the resurrection of Drax when he had died in that realm. After killing Thanos for a third time, the heroes' discussion on what to do was interrupted by the arrival of the Cancerverse's Revengers. Following an extremely long battle, the Revengers got hold of the Cosmic Cube. (Guardians of the Galaxy v3 #19) Thanos managed to retrieve the Cube and defeat the Revengers, but was soon opposed by Drax, Quill and Nova. As the Mad Titan was distracted by Drax, Nova picked up the Cosmic Cube, and decided to use it along with the Nova Force to open a gate to Earth-616; however, Rider could not come as he was acting as the door between the two universes. As his last wish, Nova asked Peter not to tell Gamora about this event, as it would devastate her. This led to the return of Star-Lord, Drax and Thanos into the mainstream reality. (Guardians of the Galaxy v3 #20)
All-New Guardians of the Galaxy
Following numerous adventures with the Guardians of the Galaxy and on his own, Drax's worldview drastically changed as a consequence of a tragedy. While going hunting on one of his favorite planets, Drax came across a group of alien slavers. When confronted by the villains' leader, King Lahcing, Drax effortlessly murdered his men and the king himself, despite the slaves' pleas for peace. The Destroyer subsequently learned the hard way that the slaves' brands were to deploy a poison on them if their owner died. From then on, Drax's spirit for battle was quenched, and he vowed to renounce violence. Even though the environment found with the Guardians of the Galaxy could clash with his desire to avoid violence, Drax remained with the team, in hopes to find a chance at redemption on their adventures. The battles Drax fought with the Guardians led him to accidentally take the life of another creature more than once. Dissatisfied with his lack of compliance with his own vow, Drax decided to quit the team. By Star-Lord's suggestion, Drax went to live on Xitaung, a planet where a group of rogue members of the Nova Corps were hiding the Power Stone, so he could live a quiet life, but also provide assistance if they were ever threatened. Thus, they created the Destroyer Horde that were clones of Drax to serve them. had no will of their own, obeying only the will of the Church. While most of the Horde was destroyed by the Guardians of the Galaxy, this clone was given a consciousness of his own by an alternate reality version of Moondragon, who used her telepathic powers to collect memories of the original Drax from everyone present to do so. Once this happened, he abandoned the Horde and the Church to follow the Guardians so that he could become who and what he really should be. (Guardians of the Galaxy v5 #12)
